Five Area Agencies to Assist OCPD during Fall Events

OCEAN CITY, MD –: In preparation for the upcoming fall events in the resort, the Ocean City Police Department has made an agreement with other area agencies who will be assisting us while the town’s population continues to swell into the shoulder season. Those neighboring agencies include the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office, the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office, the Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office, the Maryland Transportation Authority Police and the Maryland State Police. To varying degrees, they will be assisting the OCPD during OC BikeFest and Endless Summer Cruisin’, which are held in Ocean City. They will also bolster enforcement efforts in Ocean City during the H2OInternational Car Show, officially based in Whaleyville.

The shoulder seasons in the resort continue to grow in popularity as a result of the growth of many popular special events. By the time many of these events have begun, the majority of OCPD’s seasonal staff have left the department making it challenging to provide the staffing levels needed to patrol the resort during these special events due to the large number of visitors.

“We couldn’t be more grateful for the relationships we have with these neighboring agencies. These partnerships that have been formed are extremely beneficial for us and the residents and visitors of Ocean City can rest assured that their town will remain safe during these popular events,” commented Chief Ross Buzzuro. “We know that these agencies will be here to assist us when we need it most, and conversely the OCPD is ready and willing to help each of them whenever we are asked.”

During each of the three major events, many hotels and restaurants will be offering discounted accommodations and meals to law enforcement officials working away from their home jurisdictions. This effort was coordinated with assistance from the Ocean City Hotel Motel Restaurant Association.

“When our department is scaled down to our year-round staff in the fall but the large population in the resort continues, we rely on our neighbors and our community to help us keep this town safe,” continued Chief Buzzuro. “These partnerships between both our allied agencies and our business community truly is a testament to the dedication to public safety in this area.”

All agencies involved also plan to capitalize on this opportunity as a chance to work with one another and building relationships in the event that the agencies come together for a large incident.
