A French Soldier's View of US Soldiers in Afghanistan

Recently, we stumbled upon a French newspaper that had an op-ed from a French soldier that had served with US soldiers and marines in Afghanistan. His appraisal of U.S. servicemembers is gushing with praise; so much so that many commentators claim that this is simply a propaganda piece by U.S. interests. The debate continues! We invite the reader to decide for yourself.

What follows is an account from a French ISAF soldier that was stationed with American Warfighters in Afghanistan sometime in the past 8 years. This was copied and translated from an editorial French newspaper and was originally posted last year at the American Veteran site Warrior Lodge. Due to its popularity, dozens of other military-themed websites started re-publishing it, some giving proper attribution to Warrior Lodge and others stealing it outright.

Incorrect grammar from the translation remains intact to preserve authenticity.

Our military is the best, made up of well-trained, dedicated and talented people. The leadership at the very top, though...

Why haven't we won any wars?

Why are we fighting against 5 countries, none of whom has a Navy, an Armor Division, or an Air Force? We can't beat them?

I think the military suffers from the same thing most American businesses suffer from: stupid lazy American employees.

The young people here suck. Out loud.
