Rio 2016: Ibtihaj Muhammad out of Olympic fencing - but media won't let hijab-wearing American go quietly

She was the poster girl for the hijab, a breaker of ground as the first American Muslim to compete at the Olympic Games in the traditional head-dress of her faith.

Turns out faith was irrelevant all along. When the whistle blows in this arena it’s about winning and losing. Nothing more, nothing less. Religious orientation had no bearing on the emotional swirl that claimed fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad after her defeat to Cecilia Berder of France in the last 16 of the sabre.

The swarm of journalists on hand to record history were not quick enough to intercept Muhammad after her loss. She swept straight through the mixed zone in tears before the fourth estate could get out of the lift.

After military conquests, Muhammad would dole out captured women as war prizes to his men. In at least one case, he advocated that they be raped in front of their husbands. Captured women were made into sex slaves by the very men who killed their husbands and brothers. There are four Quranic verses in which "Allah" makes clear that a Muslim master has full sexual access to his female slaves, yet there is not one that prohibits rape.

The Quran gives Muslim men permission to beat their wives for disobedience, but nowhere does it order love in marriage (although it does say that "love" exists). The verses plainly say that husbands are “a degree above” their wives. The Hadith says that women are intellectually inferior, and that they comprise the majority of Hell’s occupants.

Does the Koran really demand that women wear headscarves? Or is it mainly older men who claim they can decide how women should dress – with no theological foundation whatsoever? For the Islam scholar Lamya Kaddor, there is no question about it: the headscarf is obsolete
If I as a Muslim woman living in Germany ask myself whether I should wear a headscarf or not, that gives rise to the question of whether the additional head-covering called for in the Koran (33:59) still fulfils its original purpose of protecting women from male desire. My answer is: no. In contemporary Germany such covering-up no longer serves that purpose. It is even more likely to bring about the opposite of what God intended by exposing wearers of headscarves to discrimination.

Read the Koran and you might learn what he's talking about. But to help you out he wondered if the Koran actually says Muslim have to do what they ALL say they must. Like wear headscarf. No booze. No pork. Got it???

The ONLY reason she made the time was because she was black. That's the new craze with blacks now. Being Muslim. Walk around in a costume and play the system a little more. PERIOD! !!

I thought 7:29 and 9:45 both had interesting comments. The rest of you not so much.

Please lets remember. This woman is an AMERICAN. She is an American citizen, and patriot who went to represent AMERICA in the World Olympics.

She is exercising her Constitutionally protected right to freedom of religion. You know that thing that AMERICANS do?
