Troopers Investigate Fatal Crash East of Dagsboro

Dagsboro, DE – Troopers are investigating a fatal crash that occurred late yesterday evening just east of Dagsboro.

The incident occurred around 10:58 p.m. Saturday May 28, 2016 as Amber L. Petersheim, 26 of Mount Joy, Pennsylvania, was operating a 2008 Nissan Xterra eastbound on Vines Creek Road (SR26) approximately 1 mile east of Dagsboro. Lucas M. Miller, 33 of West Lawn, Pennsylvania, was sitting on his 2016 Yamaha FZO7 motorcycle, stopped on the eastbound shoulder of SR26. For unknown reasons, Petersheim failed to maintain her travel lane, and allowed the vehicle to drift onto the shoulder where the right front bumper struck the rear of the motorcycle. The motorcycle became lodged in the engine compartment of the Xterra and remained upright while Miller was ejected to the ground.

Lucas Miller, who was wearing a helmet at the time, was transported by EMS to Peninsula Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Amber Petersheim, who was wearing a seatbelt and is eight months pregnant, was transported by EMS to Beebe Healthcare for observation only.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident. Alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be factors in this case and no charges have been filed at this time. SR26 was closed for approximately three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
