Locals voice concerns on cop crash

Two citizens raised questions and demanded answers from the Ocean City Council Monday about two separate officer-involved car crashes in the resort.

Two weeks after 67-year-old Jeffrey Yale Delong was struck and killed by a patrol car driven by an on-duty officer, George Leukel and Randy Hill used the public comment segment during the session to argue for transparency in that investigation and an incident where an undercover police officer rear-ended a school bus on March 29.

The bus was stopped at the railroad tracks at westbound Route 50 and was slowly beginning to move forward when it was struck by the officer operating a government-owned pickup truck, according to incident reports.

“I think we have a problem where the officer is being distracted by the computer in the car. I don’t see that the Police Commission has had any discussion on this,” Leukel said to the City Council. “Is the City Council doing anything about these accidents?”

There are statutory laws against distracted driving
So that can't possibly be the case here
A cop wouldn't do the wrong thing? Right?

So while the cops are typing our license plates into their computers to see who they can stop, they are endangering everyone's life?

But I thought officers were capable of multi-tasking, ie, using their cell phone while driving..................... Did anyone check the officers cell phone? Don't they check ours????

I guess the officer didn't know that the LAW requires that all buses stop at all railroad crossings.

talking on cell phone????

Nothing to see here peasants, go back to working and getting taxed to death to pay for officers who don't have to follow the very laws they enforce against us peasants. Cops are allowed to be on their cell phones, the radio, and their computers, and when, not if, they cause an accident it's our fault for not paying attention to them. It's not rocket science, just hypocrisy and elitism at its finest. Blue lives matter, ours don't. And when you leos post to this just make sure you look up from posting before you run into another person or school bus:)

Per miles/hours driven, cops have significantly less rate of accidents then the general public.

Phones radios computers weather and being human whatever personal problems are on their minds. All distractions! They can possibly be trained to drive and focus on their surroundings all at once. Police have been given to much leeway! They need to be held accountable same as civilians. How can they be respected when they're above the law? Lead by example!

1:11 and that makes everything they do ok? right?

I bet when the cops have internal investigations and cover ups , not to mention padded statistics by the likes of commanders like Babs and Lewis.

1:11, truck drivers, delivery persons, taxi drivers, bus drivers, professionals all do not text, phone, or type on laptops while driving.

Police do all 3.

Yeah all you cop haters....blah blah blah...let's just go back to the days of, "BECAUSE I SAID SO", followed by compliance or a wood shampoo. Society was a lot healthier when a cops words did not fall to the ground.

2:23- everyone of them use a cell phone while driving.

Cops words belong on the ground. All of them are lying garbage. Every damn cop has lied on the stand. To other cops. To cover for cops.

The real problem is the police investigating their cells all cover-ups but the real problem is the judges taking up for these thugs in blue reading these articles I'm glad America is waking up the revolutions beginning

How do you figure? I'm betting 9:58 is more honest than any cop. They call it the thin blue line for a reason.
