Ocean City Desperately Finding Ways To Tax & Fee Residents Because They Refuse To Reduce Salary Expenses

I have been told the town of Ocean City's phones are going crazy over this letter.

The letter in this case was written on August 7th then mailed to the condo's management company who in turn mailed it to the owner. So in some cases the owners don't get the letter until August 12th. If they don't submit an application with payment by August 18th they could be fined from $25 to $1000 per day and subject to removing the floating dock.

Also, if they don't get the application in on time they will have to remove the floating dock which may cost about $1000 then submit an application. In many cases these floating docks have been in place for over 10 years.

And people wonder why Donald Trump has so much support from regular folks. Stuff like this is why!

Given that the time frame was set without a thought paid to how long it would take to get to individual dock owners, Mayor Meehan should step in and have a chat with the originator, then send another letter with an apology and a reasonable time for compliance. No fines unless there's a clear refusal to comply. The city let this get out of hand through poor management and magnified it by being dumb about notifications.

The author of the letter is conveniently on vacation this week.

They will find anything they can to get revenue. They starting taxing boat slips a few years ago. Next they will probably start taxing parking spaces that you get with your condo.

Don't give them any ideas. Just saying for the people that are unfortunate enough to still own property there. I sold my home in 2006 and laughed all the way to the bank.

To make the problems worse, there are pending sales/settlements of condo units in OC with floating docks that are now in noncomplience. Many of the docks have been there for many years. This ridiculous afterthought of of forcing folks to obtain a permit on such short notice has already caused all sorts of anguish to sellers. Property settlements are now delayed pending the application process. I understand some buyers are withdrawing offers because of the delays and the risk that they are denied a permit after properly applying.

Way to go town of OCEAN CITY

I once lived in a Condominum located on 144th Street in OC. There was a built-in pool in the middle of the project and each building surrounding it was separated by 20'. In an effort to try and keep the general public out of the premises - I applied to put a piece of fence (20') between each of the four buildings.

Would you believe that the Town of OC required me first apply and charged me $300 to be heard before the Board of Zoning appeals. After that - our association was also tacked with a building permit fee to install the (2) 10' sections of fence between each building.

I know the general public might find it hard to believe - but after it was all said and done - the permits and fees charged by the Town of Ocean City exceeded the hard construction cost for installation of 8 - 10' sections of fencing.

After that I decided to sell my condo and move the hell out of there. IMHO Ocean City should be designated the TOWN OF SHYSTERS. My advise to anyone contemplating visiting or vacationing in OC - stay clear of the place.

Ocean City sounds like the city of Salisbury, a.k.a. "the bury". This is exactly what the city council does to get extra money to spend on stupid projects. Instead of seeking out ways to cut expenses, no, no, no, that is just too hard for us to do, we like charging fees and raising property taxes to cover all of our wish-list of wasteful spending.

God forbid you actually attend the council meetings to speak your mind and the reasons you are offering, they have already made up their minds in advance and hearing what the public wants or demands isn't important to them. I actually watched while one of the presidents yawned!

These presidents, and councils are just plain rabid jackasses. And that's where they have their heads!

OC a great place to visit but a terrible place to live.

They need to find any way possible to bring in money so they can give it to the OVERPAID city employees.
