Snyder: Skins Have 'Started The Process' Of Designing New Stadium

Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder says that the team has "started the process" of designing a new stadium.

In an interview with Comcast SportsNet, Snyder would not give a timeline for a new stadium to open, nor whether it would be in Maryland, Virginia or the District. But he said he hoped a new stadium would open "sooner rather than later."

Snyder called the team's current home, FedEx Field, "a great place to feature our home games, but it's 17 years old now. I think it's time for us to start looking and we're doing it."

Remember Folks, Maryland Taxpayers forked up $250,000,000.00 for the current Stadium. I personally think it's a smack in the taxpayers face moving and former Governor Glendenning should have secured the Redskins for at least 25 years. LIBERALS ARE CRAPPY BUSINESS PEOPLE.

You're incorrect, Joe. The stadium was $250 million. The public financed 28% of the construction cost ($70 million). It was build on land purchased by Jack Kent Cooke. He had purchased land in Anne Arundel county originally, but his stadium plans were rejected so he had to find the place in Landover.

Daniel Snyder paid $800 million for the Redskins *and* the stadium.

The state of Maryland never owned FedEx field. Given that $10 million in property and amusement taxes can in 2006, I'd guess that the state has at least gotten their money back by now.

I will also add that part of the deal to procure the property that FedEx Field sits on required Jack Kent Cooke to pay the cost of building the Prince George's County Sports and Learning Complex east of the stadium on Sheriff Road.
