Let me guess all medical calls. Yep I was right. HaHaHa. No need for the paid firemen.

It doesn't help when central dispatches a fire engine and an ambulance to Carroll Street for a "Very Minor MVC with minor injuries." They dispatch what the volunteer fire chiefs association tells them to dispatch and that is just wrong.

You should look into what the rest of the country does. You'll find out very quickly that dispatching fire engine or truck with rescue capabilities is absolutely the norm throughout the rest of the country. Then I'll ask you to research why they are dispatched and just how many EMS personel we killed by traffic before they starting dispatching and engine or a truck.

That is too much work for them to do. They rather just complain, much easier. If was changed, and they were in an accident that just needed a simple door pop, they would then complain that the fire department did not come to help them!

No one cares to expend the necessary time or energy to become informed as to how the fire service operates and why they operate the way they do. They have been given a mouthpiece to complain in the way of sbynews behind annonymous comments. Another sad thing is that some of these commenters are comming from within the fire service community (namely Salisbury)just to keep the citizenry stirred up. Auto Accidents have had an Engine response since the mid to late 70's at least in Wicomico County with the City of Salisbury the last to comply with the rest of the county during the Francis Darling regime. It's really sad to think that people living in this community would bash those sworn to protect and serve the citizens of the county (firefighters/EMS personnel) when they are doing what they have been instructed to do by their superiors. Each fire station in the county including the City of Salisbury has a Standard Operation Procedure manual that was created pre-1985 by the Wicomico County Chief's Association and its Radio Committee so that all fire departments in the county would be doing the same thing for the same types of calls. Prior to this period each department did their own thing in their own way making it very hard for the dispatchers to remember who did what. Standardization was the grease that made the wheel turn.

Nothing changes in society without doing things the right way. There is ample opportunity to bring your concerns to a legislative body by attending council meetings and corresponding with the people that make the day to day decisions. Until then nothing changes.

Thank you, 6: 38 for finally pointing out the evolution of the sheer stupidity of sending fire trucks out on every medical call. I'm sure the lawyers have played a major role in how a City has to "CYA" to make sure every medical call that winds up needing someone to apply a band-Aid be backed up by Fire and Police, and maybe Barney and Friends, but, hey, there's a point where taxpayer dollars end, and injuries begin.

Try a thing called "Common Sense".

While this thread is probably now did since it's 24-hours old, I feel it is necessary to state here that the Salisbury Fire Service DOES NOT respond on EVERY EMS call within the Salisbury Fire Department response areas. Wicomico Couny and the City of Salisbury adopted a response policy over a year ago tha simply states that an Engine will be dispatched on "Delta" and "Echo" level EMS calls. These calls include but are not limited to Severe Allergic Reactions (Echo)
Severe Breathing Problems (Echo)
Falls (Delta Responses)
Assaults (Delta Responses)
Electrocution/Lightning Strikes (Echo Response)
Overdose (Delta Responses)
Psychiatric/Suicidal Patients (Delta Responses).
IT IS THE SALISBURY FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONSE POLICY TO ASSIST SALISBURY EMS UNITS ON "EVERY" DELTA LEVEL DISPATCH.
The Response Determinants are derived by performing Emergency Medical Dispatch with 911 call. The codes are determined by how the caller answers a line of questioning.
