Sometime last Thursday evening, Assateague wild horse N6EM, or Maggie, is believed to have been struck by a vehicle on the barrier island and suffered an injury to her right front leg along with other injuries characterized as “road rash.” There were no witnesses and the driver did not report the incident, but the evidence is fairly clear Maggie was struck by a vehicle and injured.
“We assume she got hit by a vehicle,” said Assateague Island National Seashore Science Communicator Kelly Taylor. “No one witnessed it, but it’s a safe assumption based on the evidence and the horse’s condition. She was limping badly and had road rash and black markings on her side because the road in that area was recently paved.”
Taylor said a visitor to the island reported the injured horse to park rangers, who then found Maggie and assessed her condition to make sure she was okay.

Hit and run if you ask me. Hope their vehicle is messed up from it.
I think they should pony up and pay the medical expenses.

do you think the horse could have jumped in front of a vehical like a deer does and driver couldnt help it? I am not saying thats what happened but could be possable. And if that is what happened driver should have reported it, but if the horse got up and walked away maybe driver didnt think it was hurt. I have hit a few deer that I thought were hurt bad, but then jumped up and ran away.
close the island ban all traffic and pedestrians! then this will never happen again. poor horse! what's the matter with you folks?
10:54-I saw a movie once where a car struck a deer & then the driver and passenger put the deer in the back seat.A short time later the deer (a huge buck) regained consciousness and scared the heck out of both of them,destroying the car in the process.
