I WAS THERE: MY PERSPECTIVE ON BOWE BERGDAHL

As an Army Veteran who was working as a contractor attached to the 25th Infantry Division (same Division as Bergdahl) in a nearby FOB when Bowe Bergdahl went missing, I feel the need to speak out on the situation (notice I don’t ascribe rank to him, I will address that later).

A few days ago, Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel took the stage at Bagram Air Field in Afghanistan and excitedly started with what he thought would be a big applause line. “We got him back!” he exclaimed.

Silence.

Not. Even. One. Clap.

As the investigation of Bergdahl's likely desertion in the face of the enemy, the White House scrambles to obfuscate the truth. Will we see a court martial? Maybe. Will we see a presidential pardon? Probably.

He deserted from the front lines. Bad enough.

Other men were killed, wounded, crippled looking for his sorry butt. Worse yet.

Court martial & let the chips fall.

His return will not pay a political dividend to Obama and so he'll get fobbed back into the hands of the military judicial system.

Obama will claim "I got him back; was the right thing to do but now the Army must decide based on total info" and he'll move on to the next thing he's gonna screw up. As far as Obama's concerned under the bus works just fine.
