OCPD Press Release

Waldorf Man Arrested for Illegal Possession of a Handgun

David Lavell Wiggins
On June 08, 2013 at approximately 10:10 p.m., Ocean City police were conducting a traffic stop in the area of 127th Street and White Street. During the stop officers detected the odor of Marijuana coming from the inside of the vehicle. The occupants of the vehicle, including the driver, were removed from the car while officers investigated the origin of the suspicious odor.

Once outside the vehicle, officers began pat downs of the occupants. One of the passengers, who was later identified as David Lavell Wiggins, 22, of Waldorf, MD, was found to be in possession of a loaded 9mm semi- automatic handgun. Wiggins, who did not have a permit to carry the weapon, was arrested and charged with possession of a handgun.

Wiggins was seen by an Ocean City District Court Commissioner and was released on his own recognizance.

You have got to be kidding me. This guy has 3 prior arrests and he gets PR'd. Ocean City has officially entered the death spiral.

3:48: I completely agree. OC has got to take an ultra-conservative approach to these type of crimes, or it's the beginning of the end. Ocean City has got to maintain a reputation for harsh penalties, or this beach town will look like pre-casino Atlantic City in a very, very short time. These thugs need to know that if you get in trouble in this town - or bring trouble to this town - you're going to do some time. Police Chief, are you listening????

Ocean city really doesn't care about this type of criminal. They are more interested in targeting the under age kids that are drinking or smoking pot.

What does the fact that this thug was led have to do with the police chief or any police. The police have zero say on what a district court commissioner decides to do.

6:16 OC doesn't have a police chief. Counsel too busy worrying about nickel and diming residents and visitors to death and other inane BS then getting down to the important business. It's not like they didn't know well over a year ago the former chief was leaving. A competent responsible council immediately following the election would have had the selection of a chief over and done with. It's not like it's rocket science.
