The Daily Times Endorses Animal Cruelty

"It is one thing for people to choose to plunge in the ocean for charity but cruelty when they force dogs to go into the freezing water. How will they get them dry quickly? Bad, bad example for cruel people", said one very concerned citizen.

"REHOBOTH BEACH — For years, humans have had the chance to run into the ocean during the coldest time of the year to raise funds for Special Olympics Delaware. But this year, pooches get to be top dog.

A part of the annual Polar Bear Plunge will be devoted to dogs as the Pooch Plunge will make its debut the day before their two-legged friends’ event."

I have a lab and he loves it. There is no forcing him into the water no matter the temperature. Many city folks forget that most dogs were breed to be working animals each with specific traits. Labs and Chesapeake Bay retrievers are hunting dogs that love the water.

Not all dogs are meant to be in sub-freezing temperatures. Even though this adult event is done for the much needed funding,I believe another more favorable event could be held possibly in the summer for our four-legged friends.

We couldn't keep my brother's Chesapeake out of the water ever. She never met a body of water she didn't want to swim in. Even when it was freezing she would jump right in then after awhile get out and before we'd be back up to the house she would have ice crystals on her.
One thing we never did though was let her get anywhere near the ocean because we were afraid since she had no fear she may be swept out by currents.
