GOVERNOR MARTIN O’MALLEY NAMES STEPHEN NEUMAN DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC AFFAIRS

ANNAPOLIS, MD - Governor Martin O’Malley announced Stephen Neuman as Director of Public Affairs. Neuman will advise the governor on a range of issues, including communications and policy.

“I am pleased that Steve will join our Administration as Director of Public Affairs,” said Governor O’Malley. “With years of experience on the federal, state and local levels of government, he will be a seasoned advisor and we are confident in his abilities to help move our Administration forward.”

“Governor O'Malley has fought hard to create jobs, invest in schools, and help middle class families in Maryland get ahead,” said Mr. Neuman. “I'm honored to join his team.”

Mr. Neuman joins the O’Malley-Brown Administration with a wealth of experience in government and policy. He has worked in two governors' offices: as a senior advisor to Gov. Bev Perdue of North Carolina, and as a special assistant to former Gov. Mel Carnahan of Missouri. In addition, Neuman served as a legislative assistant under two U.S. Senators: Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) and Jean Carnahan (D-MO). Neuman also worked as law clerk for the Hon. Judge James B. Zagel, United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and as a corporate attorney for Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP.

Mr. Neuman graduated from the University of Missouri with a B.A. in Political Science, and earned his J.D. at Washington University in St. Louis.

Neuman replaces Rick Abbruzzese, former director of public affairs and will begin work in the Administration effective January 3.
