A South Florida family is pleading for help after their son, a former Marine, was imprisoned in Mexico.
Jon Hammar, 27, was just driving through on his way to Costa Rica when he was stopped at the border, his parents said.
“One of the reasons we went public is because we’ve run out of answers,” Olivia Hammar said.
Hammar has not seen Jon since August, when the 27-year-old Westminster Christian School graduate decided an exotic trip would help heal some of the emotional wounds suffered during tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I would never spend a red cent vacationing in Mexico. The country is run by the drug cartels and I refuse for my money to support them. It is also insanely dangerous. If you want sun and beaches there are plenty of other safe choices.
9:34-My safe choice would be the US.We have 50 states to choose from for a vacation. Why young people have to vacation in a hostile country is beyond me.Whatever happened to counseling to heal emotional wounds?
Whatever the reason - not really for you to judge - does not make this okay. Americans are so outraged by the wars in Irag and Afghanistan and yet no one is paying any attention to the fact that in the time we've been in Afghanistan, the death toll in Mexico has been roughly 60,000. That's 10x more than the soldier deaths for these wars.
