Like Mother Like Daughter… Malia Obama’s Spring Break Vacation Cost U.S. Taxpayers $115,500

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch today released records detailing the government funds expended on First Daughter Malia Obama’s March 2012 Spring Break vacation to Mexico. According to the records, obtained from the U.S. Secret Service as a result of a Judicial Watch Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit filed on September 20, 2012, the total cost of the trip amounted to $115,500.87 (Judicial Watch v. U.S. Secret Service (No. 12-cv-01562)).

The following is a breakdown of the costs as detailed in the documents:

Ground transportation: $23,964.81
Lodging: $21,682.92
Airfare: $47,767.34
“Vouchers”: $21,636.14 (not itemized)
Support Charges: $449.66 (travel for one from Mexico City to Oaxaca, not itemized)

Malia Obama’s spring break trip evoked controversy after the Obama White House reportedly ordered the removal of press reports detailing the trip. On March 19,2012, numerous online press outlets reported that the president’s 13-year-old daughter, Malia Obama, was on a Spring Break trip to Mexico accompanied by 25 U.S. Secret Service Agents and as many as 12 of her friends. However, shortly after the press reports surfaced they were quickly removed from the Internet. The trip took place shortly after the Texas Department of Public Safety issued a statement advising students on Spring Break “to avoid Mexico.”

Most responsible parents would not let their 13 year old go on a trip such as this without them. Shows you what kind of people they are.

Most parents don't have 25 Secret Service agents to accompany their child.

I do want to say I'm disappointed with any media discussing the children as is done here. The children are not in control of these situations and it is not their fault that do anything that children do, it's going to cost the taxpayers a heap.

She will be living out of her cadilac when she is older , it's a culture thing. Easy come easy go.

I agree 9:45-No responsible caring parent would ever let a 13 yr old go on such a trip without them and good for the press to report it and showing what kind of people/parents the obamas are.
It doesn't matter if there's a hundred Secret Service agents with the child-it's still irresponsible and shows a disregard for the welfare of a child. Don't do not pawn parenting off on anyone-ever-unless you don't care.

Most parents wouldn't appear on TV to proclaim they share everyone's financial pain, then send their families on exotic vacations paid for by the people in pain.

.....or claim (lie as usual)that they want their children to live as normal a life as possible then send them on a trip w/25 Secret Service agents. obamas are nothing more than common lying trash.

9:53pm: this is just more of the unnecessary spending by these idiots. why would ANY parents send a 13 year old child on a trip out of the country without a parent. Yes, Secret Service have a job to do in this case, they are NOT her parents and should not be expected to deal with a young teenager 24/7. Poor parenting, but then is this a surprise? NO

Wonder if Obama will send Detroit to Mexico?

I love that you all think this is the very first family in the White House to spend money like this. Whatever gets you through your venom.

They are the first family in the White House to spend this kind of money 10:17. No venom only the truth. People like yourself who are in denial and act as apologists instead of telling the truth are a problem.

I'll tell you where my 13 year old spent their "spring break" (didn't this used to be the purview of college students, not young teens?):

Outside, in the back yard, doing yard work.

$0.

Just sayin'
