MAURICE JAMES CONVICTED OF ATTEMPT FIRST DEGREE RAPE

On August 15, 2012, Maurice James, age 19, of Salisbury, Wicomico County, Maryland, was convicted by a jury sitting in Wicomico County of attempted first degree rape, attempted second degree rape, third degree sexual offense, second degree assault, reckless endangerment and false imprisonment. The State expects sentencing to be held in approximately sixty days. A presentence investigation and psychiatric evaluation have been ordered. The Defendant faces a sentence of life plus consecutive sentences for lesser offenses.

Wicomico County State’s Attorney Matthew A. Maciarello commended the Salisbury University Police Department for their investigation of this case, and thanked Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Jamie Dykes who prosecuted this case.
