Delaware State Police Explorers attended the National Law Enforcement Exploring Conference held at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado the week of July 16, 2012.

Bomb Threat Response, Crisis Negotiations, Police Physical Performance Test, and Non-Emergency Vehicle Operation Course are to name a few of the competitions.

This year’s conference was attended by over 2700 participants who along with competing in competitions, attended courses of instruction and demos in tactical training. At the conclusion of the week the State Police Explorers Post #2930 out of Troop 3 in Dover attended closing ceremonies and received a 3rd Place award in the Arrest and Search Scenario out of 324 teams competing. During the competition they were judged on the approach to the scene, entry into the scene, arrest of the two suspects, location of evidence, and team work. Explorers have monthly meetings throughout the year and are provided courses of instruction related to Bomb Threat Assessment, CPR, and Burglary in Progress, Community Service, Domestic Dispute, Collision Investigation and conducting traffic stops to name a few. The explorers not only receive classroom instruction but also hands on application of subjects studied.

Explorers can be noticed at community service events throughout the state involving Camp Barnes, Delaware State Fair, Special Olympics and Punkin Chunkin.

Qualification requirements are: mature, clean cut, clean shaven, 2.0 and above GPA students who have no criminal arrest history. This is not a discipline program. There is a Post at every Troop. Contact your local State Police Troop to find out more about this program and how you could join!
