An Economic Border War Right Under Washington's Nose

Maryland taxes and spends and stays perpetually short of cash. Virginia keeps its fiscal house in order and sees new jobs and commerce.

What's the fiercest rivalry in American politics today? There's Obama-Romney, of course, but try O'Malley-McDonnell—neighboring governors battling across the Potomac River over how best to resuscitate a moribund economy.

Martin O'Malley, Maryland's liberal Democratic governor, is competing for jobs, businesses and tax dollars with Bob McDonnell, Virginia's conservative Republican chief executive. Both are rising stars considered potential presidential hopefuls in 2016. Both are Irish Catholics—Mr. McDonnell playfully calls Mr. O'Malley "the big Irishman to our north"—and each leads his party's association of governors. The two regularly spar on the Sunday talk shows, on the pages of Washington-area newspapers, and over ...

Kudos to Gov. McDonnell. He has a handle on the education system, a handle on jobs (retaining&creating), and quite frankly he is more intelligent than what MD has to offer. The school system is first rate. The downtown areas are alive and well. Visitors flock to the small downtown atmosphere and it is great. A win-win for everyone. There is always something positive going on for all age groups. And when they have a sugplus, guess what? The taxpayer sees it. Here whether state or local, it's just lip-service. O'Malley/Ireton could really learn some valuable lessons. And you know what? It wouldn't cost a fortune to visit VA.

O'Malley is a disgrace. He has crushed this state financially just like his buddy Barack Hussein Obama has done to our once thriving nation. I should feel good about myself for not voting for him but I still have to live under his oppressive rule. Him and his ilk are killing the middle class, not the other side.

Gov O'Malley and the rest of the Dems don't want people working and successful. Successful working people will not vote for him and his idealogical cronies. He is truly the liberal elite - he knows what is best for us. Keep the masses down and throw them crumbs long enough and they will thank you for them. I love this state and hate its politics.

7:19PM I agree with everything you said. Obama has all but destroyed our country. He figures if he gives people handouts, and takes from the working people day in and day out, his kind will always vote for everything he wants to do. None are so blind as those who have to have a leader telling them what they need to be thinking instead of learning for themselves. When he finally takes everything from the people who work
who is going to support those they don't do anything?
