The "Occupy" movement, which the Obama administration and much of the media have embraced, has implications that reach far beyond the passing sensation it has created. The unwillingness of authorities to put a stop to their organized disruptions of other people's lives, their trespassing, vandalism and violence is a de facto suspension, if not repeal, of the 14th Amendment's requirement that the government provide "equal protection of the laws" to all its citizens.

I am sure Mr. Sowell regards the Civil Rights movement as a "de facto, if not repeqal, of the 14th Amendment's requirement..." I am also sure Dr. King Jr. was regarded as an anarchist in Mr.Sowell's mind. Put your dinosaur behind in the position of the younger crowd that does Occupy and realize that our thought of a future involves a dried up social security, joblessness, poverty, and downright mistreatment of the American people. Did the economy just end up this way????? No it has been on this path for years and continues to worsen as our government hands out food stamps as if they were condoms.
Since when has the media embraced the Occupy movement? Quite the scam of the article.
The media is the reason it gets a tarnished name saying its just hippies who want a place to smoke weed and attack officers/people all day.
No, the actions of those involved are the reason it gets a tarnished name by the raping, property destruction, pure lack of respect for the law/authority AND just being hippies who want a place to smoke weed and attack officers/people all day.

You are clueless. Have you ever been down to one of the occupy movements? There is no "rape," there is no "destruction of property."
Why would they respect authority that is UNLAWFUL?
Peaceful assembly is in plain sight, in the constitution of the united states.
Just because you dont like what theyre fighting for, doesnt mean what they are doing is wrong.
