BREAKING LOCAL NEWS: BILL REDDISH PARTS WAYS WITH WICO

Local icon and well respected Radio Host Bill Reddish is no longer with WICO. Bill has been a leader when it comes to local news, information and especially interviews with local and state politicians.

While Bill and I may not have seen eye to eye over the years, there's just no way I could ever say I didn't respect the man for his ability to draw in incredible interviews.

Its my understanding that WMDT will now fill in the local news on WICO, go figure. There's no doubt things will never be the same. Hopefully Bill, (and others) finds a new home soon.

It has also been reported that other staff with WICO was released today and we wish them all well.

The radio business nation wide has become more syndicated and local content is almost non existent any more. We wish Bill the very best and thank him for entertaining us for so many years.

Where ever Bill goes, he will bring character and honesty with him.Problem is, Radio management can't see the value in that.Hope he lands on his feet.We need a real local station again. We just lost the last part of the one we had. Why advertize or even listen?

I wish Bill the very best. He's one of the good people left. John R. Delmar.

Honestly I am glad to see him go. I did care for the way he handle the interview with Mike and Matt after the Leggs trail.

anonymous 4:25, It's amazing, (to me) how so many people are so black and white around here.

Bill has done tens of thousands of interviews over the years. So we liked, some we disliked. However, wishing someone be fired over one you disagreed with must make you one very special person in all.

My guess is that you are very single and boiling hot dogs and baked beans in the same pan every night because you are so perfect, right?

;-)

Considering the two of you didn't agree this is a very respectable article on your behalf.

It's time to put out the CAT

To be honest, they would have been better off getting rid of the Traffic Report. I swear it's a recording because it seems like every report on traffic is the same or without any meaningful content.

Bill Reddish will be greatly missed. He could be a tough interviewer at times, but always fair. His developed relationships with elected leaders always meant an answered phone call. I hope he finds a local place where his work can continue. He is an Eastern Shore guy who did the shore proud! Godspeed Bill,
Mike McDermott, Delegate

Yes,I agree it is time for the CAT to go.

Who else left?

Totally off subject, but I'm curious. Where was this photo of Bill Reddish taken? There is a metal dollhouse in the foreground that looks just like one I had in the late 60's. I can't remember if it's still in storage or we got rid of it.

If it had not been for Bill Reddish I would not have attended the famous Barrie (waste of good sperm) press conference in the GOB so many years ago. At that time I had no idea what a "blog" was but I soon found out, and Barrie was dumb enough to tell everyone the URL! Thank you, Bill Reddish!

What I find interesting is that this appears to be serious cost cutting, I thought that talk radio was a gold mine. I am a regular listener, but they must be losing market share. As far as Mr. Reddish's departure...I often enjoyed his interviews, but all the softball questions he continually served up to Andy Harris was a little hard to take.

Wonder where he'll go from here. He was great. He had some very loyal listeners. Where ever he goes they will go too. Someone will benefit from him.

Radio has become an extremely tough business. Radio has seen a revenue decline for years, I'm talking before 9/11 and the recession. And the current events of today is making it very difficult for these stations to stay afloat. Corporations came in and bought up all of these stations in the 90's with a lot of debt. Though Delmarva Broadcasting (the owner of WICO) was always considered a local company. It is actually owned by a group of newspapers in PA. WICO used to be owned by Bill and Stevie Prettyman....Joe you are correct Bill is a true professional. Sad to hear him let go, and even more sad to think that it will be extremely tough for him to find a job similar to what he was doing anywhere in this area. Nobody works at any of these radio stations anymore. Maybe he can land at WGMD in the Rehoboth/Lewes area they seem to still make money. But that still doesn't account for the loss of a local professional newsman in Bill Reddish. Good luck to you!

When I moved to Florida 17 years ago I found an oldie station here in Lakeland run by a local DJ from 6am till 10am. After 10 a DJ named Jeff Rollins came on. I remember him from Salisbury and was finally able to reach him. He was in California and does a syndicated show from there.

Unfortunately Bill's downfall was due to Barrie Tilghman and Louise Smith. That is why they have that disclosure about someone elses opinion not being theirs. I call it the Louise Smith disclosure.

I always thought Bill Reddish was a straight shooter. He could cut to the chase with an interview and seemed to navigate very well - even in the fog of politics.

His show will be missed. I wish him well whereever he goes.

Bill Reddish is great, and it's a real loss, especially for Salisbury, where he was one of two or three sources of real local news.

He was laid off, not fired, just so people are clear.

I listened to his show faithfully for many years. I will miss his regular interviews, like Monday mornings with Cohen and Campbell, and his not so regular ones, LOL!

Bill is a true professional. I won't be listening to that station any more because I am not interested in canned fluff from a TV station.

Hey Joe- ever think of doing an internet radio show or podcast? I know a great host who is now available!

Joe & Bill in the morning!

I always found Bill Reddish to be arrogant and obnoxious. He was the worst interviewer I have ever heard. He always tried to talk over his guests and he must havethought he was the expert on the all subjects. WICO made a good decision let him annoy people elsewhere.

Forget radio: you should be on TV, Joe. I'd love to see you on City Confidential!

does it matter if the Bill's news is replaced by WMDT? All either of them do is just read the Associated Press news...maybe he should go to WSCL

Bill brought a view that often challenged the message that the paper and tv stations were putting out. He was armed with facts and research. Louise SMith and Barrie TIlghman both tried to get him fired because they don't like the truth being out there. The station made its first mistake when it made Reddish stop doing "View from Across the RIver." Other than SBY News and Delmarva Observer it was the only investigative reporting that was going on. It would be great to see Bill team up with Joe. Perhaps not something that will happen, but they would be a force for good and accurate information getting out to the public.

Joe;I've never heard your voice,so I don't know if you have a "radio voice"like Bill did.If you do,(for some reason I believe you do)the comment made earlier might have been correct. You certainly have the political knowledge.Odds are you would make a good talk show host.
