Because the definition of autism has been broadened to Autism Spectrum Disorder and conditons such as Fetal Alcohol Syndrome are being included as well as lot of other conditions which cause social interaction and communication problems. Alot of these conditions can be attributed to the child being "a product of their environment (dysfunctionally family.)

its another ploy by the big drug companies to sell more stuff. some people just have stupid and/or shy kids. parents dont want to hear that. they want a reason, so the drug companies made one. really simple.
Follow the money. School based therapy programs and hard to prove diagnosis' equal money in the pockets of government schools, pharmaceuticals, and doctors.

Autistic children are not stupid! Quite the contrary! Some in the medical profession believe certain immunizations may play a role. There must be some reason that the fed govt has a billion-dollar budget category for lawsuits involving immunizations.

It's not autism that's on the rise, but the diagnosis du jour-Autism Spectrum Disorders.
Those truly autistic are profoundly disabled.
The fact stands that this diagnosis has become a very high dollar business.
In this day and age of politically correctness you can't tell Baby Momma that the reason her offspring has behavioural problems, short attention span, non existance social and coordination skills is because while pregnant she sat around in a crack induced haze or an alcohol stupor.

Also when a child is labeled as learning disabled they can modify test scores and reduce learning expectations in those students.
This of course makes the school look like it's putting out students who are more academically sound than they really are.
There is only one thing that everybody consumes, often. That is Water. Humans are destroying the land and the environment. And, the abuse is filtering into our water supply.
