License Plate To Honor Maryland Veterans At Issue

I need your help on this bill. David Collins from WBAL TV in Baltimore did a great job covering what the issue is (see below). If you’ll scroll past the article, you’ll see a list of the people who need to hear from every single one of you who support such a plate. Remember this plate would be available the same way a Bay Plate or Ag Tag are currently with the profits going to the Veterans Trust Fund!!!

HB 541 Would Make Plates Available To General Public ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Controversy is brewing in Annapolis over a license plate designed to honor U.S. military veterans. WBAL-TV\David Collins A Maryland license plate for veterans of service is proposed in the 2012 session of the General Assembly The license plate, similar to the Chesapeake Bay license, says “Maryland supports veterans.” The proceeds, according to 11 News reporter David Collins, would go to the Veterans Trust Fund. Collins said that for most people, a round of applause for returning military veterans doesn’t come close to really appreciating the debt owed to the men and women in service. Some, like Maj. Robert Marchanti of the Maryland Army National Guard, made the ultimate sacrifice. “We have the ‘Maryland supports veterans’ in a red banner,” Cecil County Delegate Michael Smigiel Sr., R-District 36, said in describing the plates. “All the money that’s raised will go to take care of them.” “We think it is a fitting tribute to the veterans who have gone in harm’s way to do the nation’s business,” retired Col. Andy Fallon, president of the Annapolis chapter of the Military Officers Association of America. “We are reminded in the paper of our war dead often, but the people want to do something more,” said Delegate Mike McDermott, R-District 38B, who represents portions of the lower Eastern Shore. “They want to participate and show they care. This license plate is an opportunity for the people of Maryland to do just that.” “We are reminded in the paper of our war dead often, but the people want to do something more,” said Delegate Mike McDermott, R-District 38B, who represents portions of the lower Eastern Shore. “They want to participate and show they care. This license plate is an opportunity for the people of Maryland to do just that.”

So the MVA thinks it's a burden to collect the funds and forward them to the veterans groups? I guess it's not a burden for businesses, large and small, to collect 6% sales tax and forward it to the state for no compensation. Or, it's not a burden for employers to collect and forward incomes taxes, FICA, social security and other funds to not only the state, but also to the federal and county governments. No, it's just fine for taxpayers to do the crap work for the government but not okay for the government to actually help someone.

If they want to show they care, lower the taxes.

The MVA thinks it's a burden to do anything! Don't even walk in one at 4:15 unless you want to hear huffing and puffing and curtness.
One time I had to call them and when I finally got to a person they couldn't answer the question so I asked to connect me with someone who could.
The answer I got-No one is here that can answer your quesion, IT IS FRIDAY AFTERNOON!
