'All American Muslim' Show 'Bombs'

The Learning Channel has canceled its “All American Muslim” program, which was condemned by conservative groups for providing a skewed look at Islam in America, but it apparently wasn’t because of any controversy.

It was just that few wanted to watch.

That’s according to the Atlantic Wire, which said the program launched with 1.7 million viewers but within weeks had plunged to 900,000.

According to the Detroit Free Press, where the one-year-long program was based, cast members reported that they were told the ratings were too poor for the program to be continued.

The program looked at five Dearborn families of Muslims going about their every day lives. Individuals included a police officer and a football player.

“Having the opportunity to be a part of such a groundbreaking series with TLC has been extraordinary,” cast member Suehaila Amen told the newspaper. “Our show helped to pave the way for the moderate Muslim voice to be heard in this nation.”

And how many other reality shows tank on a yearly basis? There is nothing to this story except the fact that a TV show didn't live up to the rating expectations of its network. Just like countless other shows. But, by all means, use this as an excuse to spout off a bunch of anti-Muslim bigotry.

I agree with you 5:33. No one race or religion is bad. There are good and bad people of all religions and nationalities. Everyone here talks so badly about everyone else. How many of you actually know a Muslim person. They are no different then you. They didn't do anything to deserve the hatred they get. A few bad terrorists did. Why should all get the blame. Seems there is so much bigotry and hatred here on the shore. You all talk about blacks Muslims mexicans. I have never seen as much racism as here. We are all GODS children. I'm sure He isn't happy with all the anger and hatred spewed by you people everyday.

You don't have a clue what you're talking about. A 'few' bad terrorists? Which rock have you been hiding under for the past 20 years? Or are you even 20yo yet?

I get what you're trying to say but you need to reign it in just a bit. Being touchy feely love thy neighbor and all that is a good aim in life but not always realistic.

No Muslim or follower of the Islamic faith has horns growing out of their forehead so we can identify the good ones from the bad ones. If you want to stay alive be suspicious of all of them. Keep your eyes open and not be naive. Chances are you will never meet an extremist but there is no positive way on knowing that.

And, there are others who are neither Muslim or Islamic who are terrorists.

I would bet there are a few wannabe's right around here but most would never act on it.

There is hate everywhere. The shore has it's share as well. I've seen it and I've felt it. And I've probably even shared it on occasion. I think that would fit most, if not all, people.

Until you have enough exposure to a person to have a feeling what type of person they are, there is no way of knowing.

Hate is such a strong word. But I'm sure you are right about people hating others on this shore for no other reason than what they look like. That crosses every race line, every territory line and it's not limited to just one or two races.

One doesn't have to hate anyone to be aware of their surroundings and the people around them.

I wish we could walk down the street with a big ole grin on our faces and profess love to everyone we meet. But that is just not the way it is, anywhere.

One can be an inspiration to others to be a better person or whatnot. But no one can change anyone.

Good luck to you and I hope you never lose that loving feeling you seem to have for others. But at the same time, don't be so trusting that you put yourself at risk.

My sermon is not concluded. ;)
