No. Very few do. See you at the next election cycle nay voters.

NO; just because the County has neglected the BMS for so long, is not reason to continue turning their backs.

Anonymous said...

Yes - absolutely. It was the correct decision.

no

Yes especially after watching the meeting. The discussion of the 7 cents was a big issue especially when it was finally revealed only 2 cents was needed.

Yes - absolutely - when your finances at home are off you don't go out and buy a new car until things improve. I think the Council make the correct decision because at this time Wicomico County doesn't have funding for even minor things, when the economy improves sometime in the future that will be the time to tackle this project. Rick needs to put the brakes on spending but he's going to do everything he can to make him look good and make the council look bad. Even if the Council had voted for it Rick knows if he doesn't get re-elected he wouldn't be the one to have to worry about finding the funding in the future. Good move County Council!!

Unequivocally yes! The Board of Ed has continually shown their desire to spend as much money as they can without regard to student education. They have a brand new High School that can't keep up with its predecessor; they are falling behind in most areas of performance quality, and continually show incompetence in their areas of responsibility. They need to learn quality programs and personnel make for good education, not pretty buildings.

Yes. There was never, to the best of my memory, talk of overcrowding or dangerous environmental conditions. Yes, upgrade the environmental controls for AC & heat but, to the best of my old school recollection, I always thought that teachers make the difference and not buildings.

Yes,this a time where everybody has to cut back - deal with it!!!

Anonymous said...

No, this is very short sighted and will cost us even more a couple years from now.

Yes, We cannot afford a new school right now in this county. Remodel what we already have and save a boatload of money.

Anonymous said...

Absolutely

Anonymous said...

Absolutely, yes. Fix up what we already have.

NO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with the council's decision for many reasons.
The main comments that I agree with are that it does not take shiny buildings to educate children. Wicomico County Schools are horrible in that aspect.
They need to refocus on the basics of true education to produce students that actually posess knowledge that can be used in the real world.
Also, in all of the BOE's discussions regarding cuts, there was no mention of administrative cuts. This proves that the BOE has the wrong idea.

Anonymous said...

No. Council is short-sighted and lacks vision.

Absolutely

Administrative cuts do need to be cut. But what we "they" do without their business trips, extravagant lunches, iPads, overnights in Ocean City, professional trainings out of town that turn into luxurious bar tabs. But of course, the BOE doesnt buy alcohol. Yeap, they do. Audit the files CAREFULLY. Also do a thourough audit of all reimbursement requests. Get an outside auditor. Pretty buildings do not mean appropriate education. We are top heavy. Take out 10 top dogs, who do nothing anyway and we could build a new school every year.

Yes.This project has merit and we could use a new school, but we can not afford it now.We need to keep our fiscal house in order.

From the letter in today's Daily Times, BMS may not be a problem. If the teacher correctly stated the electric is wired for two prong, and now most equipment used needs to be three prong, how long before there will be a fire. I agree to renovation but it should be soon or a complete new school will have to be built. I am also concerned with other safety issues that put the children in danger, because of the age of the school.

Anonymous said...

For now, yes.

The BOE is audited every year and do not reimburse for alcohol. I know this for a fact.

Anonymous said...

Definitely yes!

No! Council is short-changing future BMS students. That school is abysmal and has long outlived its usefulness. The Council can find the money if it tries harder. As several have written, the Council is very short-sighted. We will live to regret this decision.

NO No we still need a new school the boards excessive spending has nothing to do with the need of a new school. This is two seperate things. I agree that the board needs to do better with their spending, but that doesn't mean that a new school isn' t badly needed

Anonymous said...

Yes! Do we need a new school, without a doubt. But at this time, with $100 million already in debt, we can not afford more! Maybe in a few years if the economy improves.

Anonymous said...

Yes, the responsible thing to do.

Anonymous said...

Yes, I support the decision.

Some people do not realize the level of debt Pollitt and Frederickson are planning for this county. You simply cannot fix and repair all these schools at the rate they want to the level they want. This is not a well off county. To take on that much debt without any idea of how you will pay it back is just plain irresponsible, whether you want to see a new school or not. Just my "2 cents"!

YES!! Have seen this school since 1970 and it isn't about the building. It is about the teachers. Good teachers = Good education. Expensive builing = poor education (i.e. JMB, Sr). Nuff said!

No, no, and more no.
