Newt Gingrich: Being Gay Is A Choice For Some

Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich suggested Thursday that being gay is a choice. At least for some people.
Asked if people can choose to be gay, Gingrich told the Des Moines Register editorial board that he does not "believe in genetic determinism, and I don't think there is any great evidence of genetic determinism."

I'm surprised that someone as intelligent as Gingrich is believes that one can choose to be gay. One cannot choose his/her sexual orientation, although one can choose the lifestyle. I guess the question would be, Why would someone want to choose to be gay if, indeed, he did have the choice? With all of the discrimination thrown at gays, why would make the choice to be gay? One is what he/she is--that cannot be changed, although a gay person can live a heterosexual lifestyle, and many gays do. That's a choice.
