FRATERNAL ORDER OF POLICE, COUNTY EXECUTIVE REACH COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT

County Executive Richard M. Pollitt, Jr. announced today that a labor agreement has been reached between Wicomico County Sheriff’s Deputies and himself. The Fraternal Order of Police represented the deputies in the negotiations leading to the agreement.

Pollitt said, “Last February 11th, I was greatly pleased when our full-time, certified Sheriff’s Deputies below the rank of Lieutenant voted 68-0 to authorize the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #111, to be their exclusive bargaining agent. I am equally pleased that, following a series of cordial negotiating sessions, a labor agreement has been reached. It marks the end of a long process for the deputies going back to their referendum drive of 2006.”*

Mark Wagner of the Fraternal Order of Police commented, “The Fraternal Order of Police is very appreciative of the citizen’s support for the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Deputies, in allowing them the opportunity to collectively bargain. The representatives of the deputies were very pleased to be able to negotiate this advantageous collective bargaining agreement which benefits Wicomico County as well as the deputies who protect this great county. The FOP looks forward to future agreements that balance both the needs of the county and the deputies who work for Wicomico County.”

The F.O.P. and county executive negotiating teams considered 28 provisions which were proposed as inclusions in the agreement. These included, but were not limited to: wages, a no strike provision, clothing allowances, vacation days, disciplinary procedures, furloughs and pensions.

The agreement now goes to the County Council for consideration.

It costs alot to be in the State system. I am not saying they are ot worth it, but if they really want the State Pension Plan. Go apply to become a MD State Policeman. A trooper, not the same as a Deputy Sheriff. Sorry.

this is a major waste, right along with TRicky and sHORTY. Time to eliminate 10% of the department to pay for the increase in cost of a worthless union.

It wouldn't be so bad if the Sheriffs had lobbied on their own behalf. Instead - they paid high school and college kids to go out and get signatures.

I just do not get it!

How much are they making? Is the contract available online for tax payer scrutiny? What's the total cost annually to the taxpayers for this bunch of well dressed and well armed folks?

The average road deputy is making $50,000 plus benefits. While the other county employees that also keep the county running day to day averge about $23,000 a year. What's wrong with this picture?

If you don,t think the police are worth the money; lay off your 10% and when crime hits you call one of the other winers who also think this isn't right and see how quickly or if ever they show up to help.
