Many Russian immigrants to the "red borough" of Staten Island are flocking to the Republican Party, according to a New York-based local newspaper.
They say that the Democratic Party under President Obama is too "socialistic" and reminds them too much of the top-down oligarchy they fled in their native land.
Businessman Arkadiy Fridman told the website SILive.com that the newly formed Citizens Magazine Business Club, a confederation of more than 50 Russian-owned businesses here and in Brooklyn, is aligning itself with the Molinari Republican Club (MRC) in an effort to increase the Russian community's political and economic clout.
"We decided we had to support this club," said Fridman, a former Soviet Army officer who came to the United States in 1992. "They are very close to our political and business vision."
Democrats "are going in an absolutely different direction," focusing on "income redistribution" and rich-versus-poor "class war," he said.

The Russian businessmen (?) in New York? You mean the Russian MOBSTERS? If there are 5 Russian businessmen in New York (especially in the Bronx(!)) that are NOT involved in running drugs, prostitution and sex slavery in strip clubs, extortion, gambling, or loan sharking, or money laundering, I will travel to New York and convert to Judaism. And I have a lot of friends in New York. The bet doesn't worry me. At all.
11:13 why don't you start slow. Come to Pikesville and repeat your rhetoric.
There's at least one there, lmclain-- I bought some photographic equipment from him on ebay..
Maybe he had a whorehouse in the back. :-)
Regardless of their 'vocation', this says a lot about where the country is headed.
1113-Yes, every russkie and italian are mobbed up. Oh NO! Don't forget about the Asians. And the Mexicans...come on man. Not everyone is in it, it ain't an all inclusive club.
Obama is a commie is this a secret at this point? I don't think so.
11:22...LOL....You mean there are some violent mobsters in Pikesville? I wasn't insulting THEM...and whatever the Russian mobsters are doing in Pikesville pales in comparison to the activities in the Bronx. Like Harry Truman said, I ain't givin' 'em hell, I'm just telling the truth and they THINK its hell"......
12:48 as always you're missing the point. Just because someone happens to be from Russia, does not mean that they are mobsters or involved in illegal activities. This is illustrated on a smaller scale in Pikesville.
Furthermore, with "free market" economy in Russia, most of criminals that used to reign on Brighton Beach actually went back to Russia because that's where the money is now. I do not know about Bronx but if you look at Brighton in Brooklyn, it has undergone a tremendous positive change in the last 10-12 years.
Don't take my word for it... ask some cops in the Bronx, or maybe some of the girls forced to strip in their clubs after being promised a "job" in America. Or ask an FBI agent working in that area. Or, just cross a Russian "businessman". You'll see what I mean. And 1:00PM, are you REALLY saying that loan sharking, sex slavery, money laundering, and extortion doesn't pay in New York anymore? LOL...who's missing what?
