The state legislators are working through two groups, State Legislators for Legal Immigration and the Immigration Reform Law Institute, to create a comprehensive package of model "National Security Begins at Home" that any state lawmaker can introduce to effectively shut down the ability of illegal immigrants and other foreign nationals to obtain U.S. citizenship for their children simply because the children were born in the United States.
The United States and Canada are the last remaining developed nations in the world that give automatic citizenship to babies born of illegal aliens and foreign nationals. In the last 20 years, birthright citizenship laws have been repealed in Ireland, France, Australia and New Zealand.

Birthright citizenship is in the Constitution. No state law can change it. I hope all the conservatives who were so adamant about preserving the Constitution fight these legislative attempts to undermine the Constitution. If they don't, it shows their allegiance to the Constitution is just as selective as Obama's.

For those who are 'subject to the jurisdiction' of the US-- that means subject to its laws.
People here illegally are not subjecting themselves to the jurisdiction of the law, otherwise they would have applied and come LEGALLY.
I have no problem with immigrants, as long as they're here legally. This isn't a racial thing, it's a social thing.
We aren't able to absorb everybody who wants to come here, especially when they don't have squat when they arrive.
We have already provided a 'path to citizenship'.
If you want to come here, use it.

To 11:20 -- if illegal immigrants aren't subject to our laws, then how can they be arrested? For what you are saying to be true, then ICE couldn't deport them.
Illegal immigrants are certainly subject to our laws. The fact that they entered the country illegally doesn't change that. That phrase in the Constitution means that children of diplomats and (at the time) certain Indians weren't automatically citizens.
Sorry, folks, but the Constitution is clear on this. You have to change it if you don't like it.
And as to the idea that somehow people come here illegally when there is a path to do so legally is false. There is no legal way for these illegal immigrants to come here. If you really want to stop them from coming here legally, then lobby for a change in immigration laws that give these people a way to come here legally.

Illegals are IGNORING our laws by coming here illegally-- that's not placing themselves under the jurisdiction of the US. Besides, citizenship is conferred by the parents. If they aren't citizens, they can't pass it to the child.
There IS a well-defined path to legal immigration and eventual citizenship. It's been used for decades by millions of people.
If the can't pass muster to come into the country LEGALLY, we don't want them here. We don't need more criminals.
They are welcome to apply, wait in line with the rest of the folks who want to come, and when it's their turn, the are WELCOME.

It doesn't seem you know the Constitution, 7:58. Citizenship is conferred by being born in the United States. Again, if you think illegal aliens aren't subject to our laws, then you have to also think that they can't be arrested or deported. The language of the Constitution is clear. You are ignoring it. You and Obama would get along great.
As far as there being a path for legal immigrants to come here, there isn't one for low-skilled workers. Do you really think people would sneak across the border, risking their lives, when there is a legal way for them to get here? They come to this country illegally because there is a need for their labor and there is no legal way for them to cross the border. If you want to end the illegal crossing, support a change in the law to allow them to come here legally.
