Nominations for 2011-2012 Wicomico Teacher of the Year may now be made and will be accepted until Jan. 28. Anyone in the community is invited to seek recognition for a current Wicomico teacher who has taught full-time for at least five years.
Nomination forms will be sent home with students. They are also available in schools and at the Board of Education Office, and on line at www.wcboe.org.
The Wicomico County Teacher of the Year Program annually solicits nominations from parents, students, the community and fellow educators to recognize Wicomico teachers with exceptional qualities and characteristics that make them shining examples of teaching in Wicomico County. Nominations come from many different people; a student who treasures a special teacher, a parent who sees the benefits of all that a teacher does, someone who recalls an outstanding experience in the classroom of a teacher who is still teaching, or a coworker who sees the value of a fellow teacher’s work every day.
“Teachers considered as nominees for recognition as Teacher of the Year should exemplify the traits associated with master teachers. They should be skillful and dedicated teachers who plan to continue their teaching careers,” said Karen Leimann, coordinator of the Wicomico County Teacher of the Year Program.
Wicomico Teachers of the Year, including the current Teacher of the Year, Lisa E. King (Grade 3, Delmar Elementary), model teaching excellence. Wicomico has had a number of finalists for Maryland Teacher of the Year, and has two past Maryland Teachers of the Year on staff, Bonnie Walston, now the director of special education (1994), and Aaron Deal, a computer education teacher at Salisbury Middle School (2004).
Semifinalists for the Wicomico award will be interviewed by a blue ribbon panel of judges (March 1-2). On March 24, during the Teacher of the Year Banquet at Salisbury University’s Commons, the finalists at the primary, intermediate, middle and high school levels will be named, and the new 2011-12 Wicomico Teacher of the Year will be announced.

Ahh the union awards .
I hope substitute teachers aren't included. Ms. Michelle Mezick takes advantage of the Delmar School district by sending her children there and not being in the district. Maybe someone should look into that.

Nothing personal, just the truth. You ought to hear about the abuse allegations toward her right now with her own children!
Darn Joe - if 11:48 is true you should look into that yourself. That's your tax money going to support students that live outside the district.

After reading all the comments so far, I can understand why so many children in school have such bad attitudes.
OMG! I know this woman (Mrs. Mezick) and it does not surprise me one blessed bit! I don't think any of this is gosip but just true. I've seen her nasty actions for my own eyes. God Bless her - she'll need it.

6:27 You're my hero but you just can't mask the truth about people who are spiteful, deceitful and just plain pathetic in their quest for constant self-gratification. I'm confident that the BOE will begin looking into her antics. Her time is short and will soon find herself answering to all who she has hurt.

I happen to be a friend of Michelle and you guys are terrible. We all have our faults. Just because she can be extremely mean spirited toward others, including her children, I feel that she is doing her best by sending her kids to a better school district even though they don't live there. Give her credit there, she's doing what she feels best and you can't fault people for that.

If that's true then good, she probably deserves it. But I know nothing about her or her antics so I can't comment.
Personal issues shouldn't be hashed out in public forums. Shame on you. You throw out words with no proof, it makes you look jealous and bitter. What did this women do to you? And how do you know sooo much about her if you aren't obsessed with her in some way? As far as sending your children to a different school system, people do it all the time. Do some research before you point fingers. I live on the MD/DE line and know a few people who send their children to different districts. There is tuition involved and teachers and faculty take advantage of it often. If you have issues with this woman, maybe you should address to her personally so she has the opportunity to defend herself.
