Right Out Of The Gate, States Attorneys Office Delivers Today!

The Wicomico County State’s Attorney’s Office is pleased to report that on January 4, 2011, newly appointed Assistant State’s Attorney, Karen M. Dean secured a jury verdict in favor of the State after trial by jury in the case of State v. Brett Evans, Sr.  A Wicomico County jury found Evans guilty of Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine and Possession of Cocaine.  Evans’ charges stemmed from a December 2009 arrest.

The Delmar Police had received numerous complaints about illegal drug sales in their community and arrested Evans after he sold cocaine to an undercover law enforcement officer.  Notably, Evans is registered as a sex offender in the State of Delaware.

Newly sworn Wicomico County State’s Attorney, Matthew A. Maciarello, stated that this successful prosecution by Mrs. Dean is a testament to this office’s commitment to vigorously prosecute drug dealers in our community.  Maciarello congratulated Dean and the officers of the Delmar Police Department.  Maciarello continued that this will be the first of many successful prosecutions for Mrs. Dean and the office as a whole.

Evans is scheduled to be sentenced by the Court later this month.

Have some faith in Matt! This county needed someone who wasn't afraid to make changes. I expect great things from him. This was a great start. Congrats Karen Dean and Matt!

Are we going to hear everything this office does? Sounds like nothing but PR on here.

Karen's a great prosecutor and Matt made the right choice in her! Wicomico County can count on more successful jury verdicts. Way to go, Karen! Welcome to Wicomico County.

Evans is a registered sex offender...good job Karen Dean.

Davis Ruark made sure we heard every time he did something good even when he shouldn't have got the credit! Give Matt credit for making changes. He, like Davis will learn from experience. I think his office deserves credit for doing a great job! I'm sure there is plenty of good things ahead for his new team.

Great job, Karen! That was a solid win for the good guys. Smart move on hiring her, Matt. Somerset's loss is Wicomico's gain!

Lots of hype. Hiring Joel Todd has created havoc within the office and animosity and distrust with law enforcement already.

Starting the New Year with a bang! Keep it up!

I only want results. I do not want the PUB machine when it comes to LE. Just do your jobs and don't seek or facilitate the pat on the back from the media. This probably won't get posted but I really don't want the hype on convictions or nonconvictions. It seems we are way to focused on the misery in our community than the positives. When will we ever learn?

Maciarello had nothing to do with this prosecution, which has been months in the making. Should have just congratulated Ms. Dean and the rest of the team lead by Ruark.

whoopee.

another win in the WOD.

more resources wasted fighting ghosts.

now, let's outlaw alcohol too.

why not?

it ruins lives and kills people, just like drugs.

hypocrites.

legalize all of it and treat the dumbasses that make the wrong choices.

Lets see what a great job they do when Allison Long goes to trial next week for her drug charges!Let the states "s attorneys office not forget that she was already on probation in Wicomico County when she was caught with drugs in her purse in July that she even told the police were hers let alone the other items she had! Will more favors be given to her or will she given time that fits her crime for once!Doesn"t seem like probation works for this girl!

Wait until you see what that Dean woman did on her last day in Somerset County! Now that will be a good press release.....

Wasn't she just hired yesterday? Didn't prep and prosecution of this case take more than a day? Was she already working for the SA before it was announced?

Was interesting being on the jury for this one. Tough call on whether it was entrapment or not. At the end of the day, the guilty party went to jail.

Lets give Matt and his team a chance. If the do a good job then great for them, if not then we can all complain again!
