Wargotz: "Obama Wrong on Ground Zero Mosque"
Annapolis - Today, Eric Wargotz M.D., a candidate for the United States Senate, called on Congress and the President to immediately make "Ground Zero" a National Historic Site. This new proposal from Commissioner Wargotz comes on the heels of President Obama's remarks supporting a mosque being built at "Ground Zero" in New York City.
"Ground Zero is a sacred site. For a mosque to be created at "Ground Zero" is a travesty and must be stopped. The families of those killed on September 11th should not be forced to endure the hardship a mosque at that location would create." Wargotz said.
The President and Congress can turn "Ground Zero" insto a National Historic Site or a National Park. Just like Gettysburg, the National Mall in DC, and the USS Arizona site in Pearl Harbor, Ground Zero could become a National Historic Site. Under Wargotz's plan, the National Park Service would oversee all actions at "Ground Zero." The National Park Service would be instructed to ban the creation of any new religious buildings inside the National Historic Site.
"While not all Muslims are responsible for what occurred on September 11th, those who were would view the creation of a mosque at "Ground Zero" as a victory. This mosque would be used by Islamic radicals as a recruitment tool. This must be stopped." Wargotz added.

Yes, it must be an election year. I'm sure stopping this mosque will help create jobs for unemployed families of 9/11 vicitms. It will help bring down health insurance premiums for these people. It may even improve their school systems.
So let me understand this, Dr. Wargotz is an advocate of the federal gov. using eminient domain to take some of the most expensive real estate in the world away from the present owners. I find it very interesting that the conservative right wants to side step the constitutional rights of the building owner and the religious freedom of people to worship where they please. Is this defending the Constitution? It is just hate speak, and not representing the high ideals of religious tolerance this country was founded on.
Not to mention that it's just another way to extend the debate on the Muslim community center to take the light off the fact that the republicans blocked the bill to provide health care for the first responders that are still having health issues thanks to their bravery on 9/11.
Who wants to bet Wargotz wouldn't have this stance if a church was trying to be built. And the political pandering continues. Way to lose my vote good doctor!
Actually, not really an eminent domain issue at all. Many ways to accomplish that goal withoutusing it. Frankly, many land owners would love to be part of a designated historic district - good for business. Wargotz is smart in suggesting this. He appears not to be afraid to get into difficult issues and present solutions. That's leadership my friends. He has my vote and those of my family.
My God! This is an excellent idea. It should have been so designated years ago. I would suggest that previously standing buildings nearby be allowed to be rebuilt if they so wish (like the old Greek church which was destroyed with the towers)but i think this idea of a historic district at ground zero and adjacent area ought to be encouraged to be studied. Kudos to Dr. Wargotz for thinking outside the box as this very real and emotional issue brews.

This is a very simple issue to resolve. No one in New York City is worried about it, Ted Olson (who is a Bush Appointee and had his wife died in 9/11) thinks that it should go up, and most of all the Constitution says they have the right to build it. Case Closed, end of argument. If you dislike the Constitution then move to another country.
1:06 Marc...wow i am so glad you cleared this up for all of us. Gee it is so simple. Golly I hope that they don't teach killing infidels and abuse of women as it is written in the koran. Maybe if they can have the mosque at ground zero they will leave us alone and be a peaceful and happy religion.

3:28 No, they will still continue to fight. We just should not GIVE them the opportunity to plot their next move. This mosque/community center will become another teaching site for the muslims of how horrible Americans, Jews and Christians are. Not to mention it is just plain shameful that that would want to put a mosque at the 9/11 site.
4:08, yeah lets plot in the huge building in downtown Manhattan that has national press attention and will have right-wing protestors surrounding 24/7 instead of the other 100 or so small mosque spread out over the entire city. Said it before, will say it again. The hysteria on the right is absolutely HILARIOUS!

Im still trying to figure out how a tower, no two towers at 100+ stories in height fell in 9 seconds. If it took just one second per floor of resistance it would be 100 seconds. If it were a half a second resistance 50 secons, even a quarter of a second resistance per floor would make the fall in 25 seconds. No we got 9secs. Sacred ground? If you mean we can't admit our government was directly involved in what happened then yeah its sacred. But covering up the murder of your fellow americans because fighting against a tyrannical government means you too may die, nah, there is nothing sacred about it.
6:23 so yes, you agree that there will be "plotting" even in the small mosques so why would we give them the honor of having a large mosque at the 9/11 site.
And by the way i did not make this up while slugging beer in tree stand. Never been in one. Actually I prefer sauvignon blanc;)
