60 Foot Road

"After the fatal accident involving Sam Vincent, LOOK AGAIN signs were put up at this intersection on Route 50. Doesn't seem to be making a real difference. Just this morning as I was leaving for work there was an accident in the east bound lanes at Sixty Foot Road-three vehicles involved. Looks like everyone was out of their vehicles and okay this time. No emergency crews or police were there yet, and I called 911 and was informed they already had someone on the way. People need to slow down and pay attention."

Simple. Shut down the cross over in the median of 50. Problem solved.

How about an overpass. That will keep traffic moving on 50. Traffic lights only add to traffic problems just look at 13 north salisbury.

There are a lot of people on the road that have no business driving.

i agree with all these comments as a pittsville resident, this accident sent 3 to the hospital one being a maternity patient as well as a toddler, the fire trucks cant even cros the highway in the summer due to the traffic because they just don't stop big lime green fire trucks with lights sirens and airhorns and they keep going

Simply put it is the angle of the intersection. You are not looking out of the side window at traffic like most intersections. When you cross from south to north and you look at the west bound traffic most of it is blocked by your "A" post (the very front beam that holds your windshield in). Straighten the intersection up so it is more of a right angle to 50 and I bet your problems would be minimized.

I think that it is very safe to say that all around this area, many drivers are just aloof and unaware of traffic patterns. It is almost like people are in their own 2 ton cocoon oblivious to everything around them. As a father of two small children, I just about cringe every time we go out as it seems that many people just attack intersections. By this I mean that rather than progressively slowing down prior to coming up on an intersection, it seems that they rapidly slow down at that last minute, if they even do so at all. Case in point was an incident I personally witnesed today coming home form work on route 50 westbound. The area I am refering to is where the Royal Farms store is, and I observed a young woman - maybe 25 or so, blow through the stop sign, cross 50 westbound, and cut off two cars going east bound, zooming on along her way, all the while on a cell phone. I had both of my kids with me, and thought for sure she would hit someone. Folks, modern technology has affored us the perfect opportunity to address this by simly noting the tag number, and the precise area of incident. Once you are stopped you can simply call the police, give a vehicle description and the tag number and let the pros do their thing. They certainly can't just take your word for it and charge people, but they can certainly be aware of it and be on the lookout.

Is there a straight intersection anywhere on rt 50? Look at the other intersections in Pittsville. NONE of them go straight across the road they are all on an angel. I guess they were drunk when they put in all the intersections. Something needs to be done. A stoplight is NOT an option.
