County residents have themselves and Sam Vincent’s tragic death to blame for the fact that most of the seats are as good as filled and in all but one contested race most of the candidates are lackluster wannabes. The real disappointment is that the Republicans have once again failed to get a viable candidate for County Executive, just like in 2006. Mr. Pollitt is so unbeatable this time that he could donate his campaign contributions to fund more deputies – are you listening Rick. Since his opponent has promised to have no yard signs, he should reciprocate.
You would expect the countywide races to be the main event with good candidates running neck-to-neck. But besides the County Exec. race a less than stellar candidate is running against Davis Ruark for States Attorney. Not that anyone could beat him, Sheriff Mike Lewis is unopposed, and the bunch of candidates for the two open at-large seats on the County Council are mediocre at best.
It looks like Gail Bartkovich, Joe Holloway and Stevie Prettyman should easily win in their districts of the County Council. So, if Bob Caldwell unseats the incumbent in his district there would be a Republican majority, even if Sheree Sample-Hughes wins in hers, as seems likely.
We see a probable 5-2 (and possible 6-1) Republican majority on the Council, which will be a blessing with Rick Pollitt continuing to be the County Executive. The decisive races will be for the two at-large seats, in which the primary will be significant. The other races seem all but over even at this early date.

mediocre? by whose standards? Lewis is mediocre, are you comparing the candidates to him? Ruark is worse than mediocre. Are you comparing the candidates to him? Are you basing mediocrity on a guy in a blond wig who thinks he is a news reporter? Define mediocrity.
It's still possible some of those candidates could face opposition, as the two central committees can put up candidates in races where no one from their party has filed. We'll know what the committees do within the next 15 days.
Tea Party will go 0-3. It is much harder to govern than it is to complain.

Donna Ennis Julie Brewington filing for Delegate in 38A has caused quite a stir. The more thought I give to this the more I support and defend her right, as an American, to file and campaign for public office. This is why we have elections and the right to vote.
the republican committee is still (very) actively recruiting potential candidates for some races that haven't had a full slate of candidates. They are desperately seeking a candidate to run as a republican against the current state's attorney. They asked me if I was interested but had to turn them down due to a conflict of interest. they will not ask anyone in the SA office to run because that person would have to resign under their new policy that caused such a controversy before vincent's death. I think ruark probably has a lock on this.

Some of those "wannabes" are wing-nuts, too. Thank goodness we will have Bartkovich, Holloway, Prettyman and probably Bob Caldwell on the next Council to put the brakes on Pollitt. Then it can't upset things if the at large seats go Democrat, along with Sample-Hughes.
But I urge all Democrats to reject Edward Taylor -- we know his record (tax & spend) and ultra liberal views.
From now forward it should be "Lucky" (not "Ricky") Pollitt.

Pollitt needs to cook in the fiduciary stew that he has created.
Pollitt has so little to worry about this time that he (no doubt with Fineran's assistance) is serving as O'Malley's campaign manager in Wicomico County.
With the right Republicans on the Council Mr. Fineran will become "history."

Who in their right mind would run? Even if their heart and mind was in the right place, why would anyone want to subject themselves and family to the idiotic comments and bashing that you read on here and in the grapevine on a daily basis. There are alot of people that want to make a difference, but they don't want to place themselves under a magnifying glass. Heck, you got people glad that the AC is broke and they are suffering. Need I say more?
Having two Mr. Holloways on the County Council could be a very good thing for the taxpayers. The elder one, Joe has proven himself true to what he said he would do if elected. He has really looked at county spending and worked to keep it in check. He listens to the public and has done an all round good job, even though I haven't agreed with him all the time. The younger Holloway, Matt, comes from a family which owns and operates a working farm in this county. He's a Wi Hi graduate and I think he graduated from SU. His dad is a CPA and the whole family is conservative. Yes, he's a young man, he's a farmer, with a good head on his shoulder. He would be a good choice to fill one of the at large seats.
