BREAKING NEWS: Seth Mitchell Files To Run For Wicomico County States Attorney

Seth Mitchell is filling out paperwork right now to run against Davis Ruark for States Attorney. He's a Democrat with Obama, Kratovil, Edwards & Kerry bumper stickers. However, will he change parties?

If Mr. Mitchell files as a Democrat, he will surely lose. Like him or not, Mr. Ruark will be tough to beat in the Democratic primary. The better chance to get elected would be as a member of the Republican party. Sadly, the late Sam Vincent would have been one of the few persons who would have been able to switch parties to run against Mr. Ruark without being accused of carpetbagging. The Republicans, I hear, are desperating seeking candidates but they would be better of to stick to a Republican this time. Any Democrat trying to switch now will doom his or her candidacy.

Haven't we had our fill of the Obama, Kratovil, Kerry & Edwards crowd? Look what they have done to our great nation! Unbearable debt for our children and lax law enforcement.

He better take off that Edwards sticker if he wants my vote. Anyone who supports that $200 a haircut adulterer and liar should not even be running themselves if they are going to model their behavior after the likes of John Edwards - especially considering the plight of poor Elizabeth Edwards. What a scoundrel.

Another liberal we DON'T need in any office....doesn't matter if he did change parties...I'll do as I've done the past 2 elections...I wrote Sam Vincent's name in as a write in (and YES Sam knew I did that)....even though I know my vote won't count this time...I'll feel better....

forget it. too liberal for me....

Couldn't this guy have waited until after Sam's funeral. I think this is very disrespectful.

Why can't we get a decent conservative to run for this office? I've just had it with these liberal democrats.

Seth Mitchell is WAY liberal. I have had many conversations with him over the years and he is so liberal that he would make MANY Dems uncomfortable. This is a man you definitely don't want to be a States Attorney.

He doesn't have a chance.

I totally agree with 11:46...this is very disrespectful....that's the liberal for you though.....

I have no desire to vote for another Obama lover after voting for Jim Ireton. John Bartkovich can stick this liberal party switcher so far up his a$$ if he wants. I want a conservative, not some jerk off who switches parties just for an election.

These actions like this from Bartkovich is what is ruining the Republican Party locally and nationally. Bartkovich needs to go.

Mithcell filed as a Democrat. So save your ire, 1:32.

I'm not necessarily backing Seth, but I disagree that he should have waited. Tuesday is the deadline to file. Is the election office even open on Monday?

No one critisized John Cannon, John Phoebus, etc, for filing before Page Elmore's funeral.

Seth is a credible candidate and it is clear that Davis has his problems.

I think there will be at least one more candidate step forward.

Decent conservative? There is an oxymoron for you.

Decent conservative is oxymoron -- No worse than "intellectual liberal."

Not backing Seth. The only days to file for office are today and Tuesday, 7/6.

Except for Seth Mitchell and Davis Ruark, Wicomico County lawyers, who have the criminal law expertise to be State's Attorney, don't want the job. that is why the anti-Ruark group has been frantically searching for a candidate since Sam Vincent's death.

He does not stand a chance, the only two people who stood a chance were Sam and since his death a local attorney who was a former asa, and she turned it down after serious consideration. People need to remember that getting into this race this late is almost suicide.

6:46 she wouldn't have turned it down by any chance because she thinks she might stand a chance to replace Judge Don Davis when he retires later this year? She had a better shot at the SA job. Too many other (male) big wigs in the hunt for the judgeship.

IMO, almost any lawyer, who wants to run, could beat Davis Ruark; particularly, if he or she files as a Republican and thereby avoids the Democratic Primary, which is the only place Ruark has any possible remaining votes. However, the vast majority of local lawyers, with any qualifications to be State's Attorney, don't want the job.
The State's Attorney Office, under Ruark, is a "dysfunctional" family ( to paraphrase Ruark ).
Why would a qualified lawyer give up better pay, and less work, in private practice, to take on what is essentially a very difficult 24/7 job, even under the best of circumstances.
The answer is they won't.
Several men and woman lawyers have been solicited, by a well-financed anti-Ruark group, and they have all declined to run.
The fact is that Ruark will, probably, be re-elected by default.

11:31 PM,
Davis Ruark is a very good trial lawyer and a terrible administrator and, otherwise, unqualified to continue as State's Attorney.
Unlike you, I won't claim to speak for the late Sam Vincent. Rather, I will point to the facts.
After years of being Ruark's friend, and loyal second in command, Sam Vincent announced that he would run for Ruark's job, because Ruark was no longer effective as State's Attorney.
Ruark's response was to demand the resignation of Sam Vincent and anyone who supported Sam.
Therefore, the facts contradict your claim that Sam " would want " Ruark to continue as State's Attorney.
Furthermore, Ruark called the SA Office a " family ", in his press release at the time of Sam's death.
I " paraphrased " Ruark's comment to " dysfunctional family ", as I clearly stated in my post.
You are the one who brought Lee Britt, into this discussion, in the same way you claim to channel Sam Vincent's post-death wishes -- speciously.

Isn't Mitchell the ambulance chaser that defend that monster that killed Sarah Foxwell? Maybe if that SOB had gone to jail little Sarah would be alive? Now he wants to be states attorney, yeah right so he can let more child killers out?

Uh oh . . . yes, Seth Mitchell did represent Thomas Leggs in one case in District Court. Wow . . . hmmm . . . Troublesome for Seth. Davis will go after and nail Leggs for Sarah's death. He's a great trial lawyer!
