I was in the North Sailsbury Wal-mart and went down the cereal aisle. I went past the Cheerios shelf and noticed what is in the two above pictures.In case it is a little unclear to read, the tube on the shelf reads "CAUTION - RODENT TRAP - DO NOT TOUCH".
Are you kidding me! Am I the only one who finds a problem with this? Have we really slipped so far that it is now OK to openly have an open rodent trap on the shelf for kids to touch?

They move in, drive everyone else out of business then do whatever they want. Goes right along with birds flying around with droppings on your produce. Yummy! Where's the Board of Health?
All grocery stores have mice and all restaurants have roaches. I even get updates from my kids schools on the pesticides being used most of which is for roaches in the kitchens. It is the real world people and you are just going to have to used to it. Reality sucks sometimes.
tedh, yes,we all know they're there but these traps should not be out where children can get near them. Seriously, how inviting would you thing this looks to a little one?

I certainly do agree that the pesticides should be in a more guarded location. If you ever looked there is always traps outside the store also near the shopping cart opening. My guess would be that you can't come into contact with the pesticide in the trap even if you tried. Still not a good choice of location.
Yes, tell Boda. He'll do as much about that as he would've done for the city if he'd been elected.
Pest control is a part of every establishment that stores food products (and probably your home also). I doubt very much that the presence of this item on the grocery shelf was Walmart's doing. There are strict guidlines on the placement of these items, and Walmart knows the rules.
Do they make them large enough so that we can put some of those on the third floor of the government building?

Probably a union member found one under the gondola and sat it on a shelf just to cause everyone to get their panties all in a bunch. I think only licensed pest control companies can handle them anyways.
no one at a walmart would notice it....that trap is probably more sanitary than the shoppers that visit there! it's like a leper colony.
Maybe their new conservation program will have mouse jerky. Check with Boda he will make sure it is safe
i do pest control for a living this is totally illegal and a lawsuit waiting to happen the company that does pest control for wal-marts in this area is called eco-lab fyi
i also do pest control for a living and the person who did this should be fired on the spot and eco lab should be fined. it is completely illegal. things like that are suppose to be put in places where they can't be messed with. that is obviously not. call the department of agriculture and make a complaint. the guy who is the inspector for the area will have a fit over this and would probably fine eco lab. they could loose thier lisence over that and they should
tedh - Really? This is the real world, I would of never guessed. Unlike some pepole I have common sense and I know that all places have rodents and pests. Duh! My point in posting this (and many folks did pick up on this) is that NORMALLY they are not put out in the open. And that it was very poor judgement on someone's part to place this on the shelf.
As my wife said when I pointed it out the her, "Seeing most of the people who shop at Wal-Mart, this is a lawsuit waiting to happen."
What could Wally World of done if the trap DID have to be on the shelf? Maybe move the products to another shelf? Maybe put the trap UNDER the bottom shelf? (in talking to my brother who works for a Grocery Store in PA I was told that is where they SHOULD be).
