The Democratic leadership is trying to get to a final vote this week, so the timing couldn't be better for us to take this stand.
We found that the pressure in the White House paid off as Lieberman's is now on board, just hours after the GOP sent out a release touting his opposition. Susan Collins may be vote 61. Dems just want a bill labeled "health care." Today thousands of Americans, parents and concerned citizens stopped all of their holiday festivities to stand up for this country and their families. Here are some pictures of the event and signs.

I can't believe health care is even a debate. Our system is so flawed as it is. The rich get preferential treatment and even the "middle class" can not afford decent coverage. As we speak, companies all across the country are taking health benefits away from their employees or charging ridiculous premiums to their workers and not offering them to new hires just to save a few bucks. NHI would eliminate that. The proposed tax is around 2% of income. That's $1000 a year for someone who makes 50k and includes dental and optical and prescriptions. Thats affordable to everyone and a fair system. That same coverage on an open market system would cost a person that makes 50k a year at least triple.
And to any snotty person that says "thats their own fault they are poor and can't get a good job with health benefits". Some day its gonna be your child that graduates college with a 4.0, busts their ass their entire life, and still can only obtain an entry level job making $28k a year with no benefits. Lets see what kind of health insurance they would be able to afford on that.

Looks like a healthy turnout. Easily a few hundred thousand.
Yes, because no one should ever debate or disagree with how they spend other people's money.
Not even close to 100k people, 10:04.
Rob S., If you think that giving the government money so they can buy something for you will get you a better value for your buck than going out and buying it yourself with your own money, you are drinking too much Kool- Aid.
In fact, having your employer buy it for you is just as stupid.
Give me the ability to buy a policy that fits me and my income and family situation from anywhere in the country, and that will bring everyone the best value.
Rob S
I find it offensive that you feel you are entitled to free health care!
What kind of lazy selfish piece of trash are you that you think other Americans should pay for your health care because you CHOOSE not to.
The very same logic could be used to argue that other Americans should buy you a new car, or aq flat screen TV, or a big house to live in.
If you want free government health care, then move to Cuba!
Bob S
You little essay is so full of Democrat bull#hit talking point that it makes me think you work for SEIU.
You reveal yourself as a Marxist in manny ways.
You assert that employers owe you health care...they do not! If you don't like the job or benefits, go somewhere else!
You assert that the cost is 2% of income. Appearantly your are completely ignoring all the "hidden" taxes, and the reductions of coverage for seniors.
I would bet that you have made choices over the year between buying health care or taking a vacation, or buying a new car etc. If you want heaqlth care then go buy it. But don't tell me that I'm supposed to buy it for you, cuz buddy "Kemosabe's gonna die!"
Rob S:
Do you really believe $1000/yr is enough to cover the average person's annual health care costs? Doctor's visits, dental visits, eye doctor visit, glasses, prescriptions...!?!
My employer paid $13,000 last year for my health insurance, and I paid another $2-3000. This for a 4-person family who is very healthy, no maintenance drugs, few doc appts.
The reason there is a debate, is because too many, apparently yourself included, who believe this can be done at such a low cost. If that was realistic, the debate would not be near as heated.
Rob
It's pointless to argue with these wingnut extremists. (note I did not say all republicans).
Just like you, I cannot imagine that healthcare is even up for debate at this point. They listen to people like Beck and Limbaugh whose sole purpose is to undermind this administration. Meanwhile US healthcare is just below Slovenia and just above Costa Rica.
They want government OUT of our health care issues, but they want government IN gay marriage issues.
This is the last comment I will make on healthcare because it is simply pointless to argue with people who still think that the President is a not a US citize or a muslim and that Sarah Palin is the second coming of Christ.
It's like arguing with 5 year old.
Alex;
Tell me, where did Ted Kennedy travel to be treated for his incurable brain tumor? Was is Slovenia, Cuba, France, Canada or any other country you think has better healthcare than the U.S? That would be a big fat NONE OF THE ABOVE! He went to DUKE, which is located.......are you ready? In THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!
Alex your comment shows what a kool aid drinking socialist you are ! They have stripped everything out of this bill except they framework why you ask ? Control ! that's why once this unpopular bill passes government can and will to a degree be in charge of your personal life choices if this sounds attractive to you maybe you should move back home to mommy ! If you ever left !
How about some captions? What am I looking at in these pictures?
Hey Alex if you and Rob S. want gay marriage then come up with your own term and start a religion that will wed you two leave my church alone !
What does the gay marriage issue have to do anything with your church?
9:22 you are absolutely correct Ted Kennedy treated here. Having excellent doctors and treatment facilities does not mean having excellent healthcare.
Ted Kennedy is a Senator with good health insurance.
If it was a middle class family, they would not be afforded the same healthcare.
9:27 in case you haven't noticed, you don't control your healthcare choices now. Insurance companies do.
I'm middle class and like my healthcare just the way it is thank you!
Alex first off your a liar ! You said you wouldn't say another word on health care ! And I never said I was in control of my health care other then I can opt out, the point was if the government is in control of my health then they will be able to tell what to eat drink where to live how much energy I can use and the list is endless . When you read these comments try not to let your emotions take over because you miss the point !
Alex,
A middle class family can't afford a compound on Cape Cod, a fleet of limos, a private plane, or many of the other niceties the Senator, and other highly-paid folks, purchase.
I must have missed it in the Constitution where it said healthcare was a right. Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. Period. Quit looking for a handout.
And if you think Slovenia and Costa Rica have better or nearly as good health care than the U.S., you've obviously never seen the inside of one of their hospitals.
Obama trauma !
