Ummmm. Ma'am - Respectfully. Given this headline I think I speak for the majority when I say if you feel this is your acknowledged dream location for a possible 4 am nap, or panic attack, behind the wheel; please designate another driver or get a motel in Kent Island/Annapolis. Somehow I believe it is always the one(s) who wake up behind the wheel but "can't remember how they got there" that walk away without paying the ultimate price.

I pray they got Mr Short's (body) OUT of that truck LONG b4 they got the whole truck up??? Does anyone know, b/c if it were my husband/father/brother/son, I would have wanted his body recovered ASAP and get the daggone truck later.
I am somehow comforted by that as I have read her past work! The whole bridge phobia thing only scares me a "little more" than I already was.

Accident happened at 4am and Mr Short's body was recovered around 5:40am. The truck wasn't recovered until later.
don't pay him any mind cruggly. he's trolling.

To 2:35 I am not sure what about the time, but Mr Short was recovered from the truck well before it was removed.
I did not know him personally, but I understand that he was a great guy. My heart and prayers to out to his entire family.
Not trolling...I am bait casting with "live minnows of truth" (and thus very patient) but am curious/apprehensive about your dark waters. I also do my own thing and am very critical of the city and DT-But you guys seem quick to slit the throats of people who may actually be on your side if you calmly try to find their true message. The DT indifference/slant made me want to rebel and speak out; but what I am seeing here today makes me feel your local wound is mortal.

Who of you have never thought while crossing either the north bridge or the south bridge tunnel,bridge,tunnel bridge, about what would happen if you went over the edge?
For heavens sake I have even seen documentaries on bridge phobias and the Bay Bridge is on the top 5 feared bridges in the country; if documentaries are made on the subject I obviously am not the only person who has had these thoughts.
I was merely elaborating on sheer graphics of the photo's.

I got you, Mr. Livingston, and your comments are welcome here as any, but also know that people are pretty raw about this horrific accident.
I don't know if the bridge authority still does this or not, but they used to drive people across who had fears of driving the bridge. If they don't still do that, I hope they will resume. I have a friend that I never would have seen on this side if it had not been for those helpful folks driving her across.
Falling asleep at the wheel is one thing. Panic attacks are another. Those with severe ones don't cross the bridges. Those with milder ones do not flip out and crash.
Maybe my comment will help the discussion progress better.
I am so sad about this accident. So sad for the family. It's bad enough to lose a family member in a car accident, but when it has an unusual and horrific twist like this, just even worse.
Thank you for at least a (finally) intelligent type response today; I had almost given up. Some of us are more concerned than others because we travel that bridge several times a week...don't be fooled-we see you opening the window/pumping up the AC for fresh air because you are on the verge of passing out, or reading your forgotten homework assignment while smoking/eating a sandwich/assembling a park bench and putting on makeup. Consider the Bay Bridge a tee shot to an island green-it is really no place for a mulligan.
That was some accident. I know someone when her husband drives across the bridge she's on the floor of the back seat, no fear she'd never even attempt it. She's not in denial, she knows, she just can't do it.
Nice person too she really would do anything for anyone as long as it didn't involve heights of a large bridge.

Mr. Livingston, you have far more to fear from those reading, eating, talking, etc. while on the bridge than you do anyone suffering a panic attack.
Ms. Wymzie's comment and the one below it simply dramatize how dramatic those photos are. The second commenter summed it up. Those will uncontrollable fear won't drive it. Those with controllable fear will cross it just like everyone else.
These fears often come with no rhyme or reason, but once the physical reaction is noticed, it becomes part of the fear.
I can't recall anyone in a survivable accident ever being reported as having a panic attack. Heart attack, yes, negligent driving, yes. Panic attack? Can't recall a one.
Those are certainly newsworthy photos-and better even than ones in the Baltimore Sun. However "eat your heart out Daily Times and Associated Press" seems a little crass. A man died at that accident scene.
It used to be free to have MTA officials drive your car across the bridge. Now it costs $25.00 each way.
Wonder why they charge for it now?
Those guys are there anyway, and they use your car...what's with the $20 bucks?
Wymzie, you should know the answer by now...follow the money.
The Bay Bridge is sort of scary to cross, particularly when they run two-way traffic on the westbound span. I like to use the middle lane when I can or just focus on the car in front of me. There's really no shoulders on it and unfortunately the Mountaire driver had nowhere to go but over.
This has been brought up in other venues, but perhaps it's time for another Bay Bridge closer to home to connect us and southern Maryland. I'd be willing to pay a $5 toll to cross if that gets it built faster - or how about a private operator?
Food for thought, it's getting on lunchtime.
