Study: ‘Family Structure’ a Major Factor in Racial Disparities in School Conduct

A new study affirms what many public policy analysts say is intuitive — that unstable family structure, including chaotic households and single-parent homes, is a primary factor in racial disparities in school behavior and suspensions.

The study, conducted by senior fellows Nicholas Zill and W. Bradford Wilcox at the Institute for Family Studies, asserts education policymakers “must recognize that social and psychological problems in youth may manifest themselves at school but have their origins in family situations over which the school has little or no control.”

Among black students who do live with both married birth parents, suspension rates are less than half as large as those for black students living in other family types: 12% versus 28%. The suspension rate for black students living in intact families, 12%, is also less than the suspension rate for white students from non-intact families, 13%.

"..Single family homes is not a good environment to raise kids in.."

I think you mean single-parent homes, don't you? And you're right.

Especially boys in homes with single mothers and no father-figure to mentor and 'guide' him.

Some will go nuts over this statement, but it's true nevertheless.

Northwest Woodsman: I’m certainly tired of experts, studies, press, media and politicians making excuses for black poor performance and their universal criminal behavior. Look, it has been a continuous problem since the early 60s and has only gotten worse. Pandering to them is obviously not working. Admit defeat and realize that social justice is a farce. Give it up and find a real solution.

9:10 That’s what planned parenthood was founded for. Margaret Sanger and her lot. Abort as many of them as possible so they are not continuously beleaguering society.
In the wild, natural disasters, war and murder, the cognitive inability to combat plague and disease, Darwinism, all thinned the horde and gave balance. Reproduction rates always kept pace with natural elimination. Since more advanced thinkers have interceded in their natural habitat and that process, like in Baltimore, now there is an overpopulation problem and the gene pool has been overwhelmed with nescience and ignoration.

I’m a single parent, and my children were never in trouble, earned good grades and have good jobs. I worked hard to make sure of that, so I don’t buy your generalized statement
