From the Facebook page of Governor Larry Hogan

They're at it again. The same politicians that raised your taxes 43 consecutive times during the O'Malley years have been meeting in secret to raise your taxes.

The so-called Kirwan Commission is the legislature's vehicle to push for MASSIVE state and local tax hikes - the largest in Maryland history - that will do little to increase student achievement.

The Maryland Department of Budget and Management estimates that the Kirwan Tax Hike plan will require a 39% increase in the personal income tax, an 89% increase in the sales tax, or a staggering 535% increase in the property tax. This would cost each Maryland family at least $6,200 in additional taxes per year.

Our administration is fighting to make sure money goes into the classrooms and not wasted in bureaucracy. We will continue to push for more accountability and continue to fight to root out corruption and mismanagement in our school systems.

Enough is enough. I give no confidence that the Democratic majority in the House and Senate of Maryland are able to balance a budget. A tree full of monkeys could do a better job. Shout it out, "No more roll over budget items." If you cowards do not have enough courage to bring these bills to be heard, then you should turn in your career. Lazy, corrupt and incapable of dong what is best for the public.

Funny there is no mention of doing anything to stop these massive tax increases. This is nothing buy Smoke and Mirrors by RINO Larry.

Giving the schools more money will NOT fix the problems. Until you make everyone accountable for their actions nothing will change.

I do not care where the money is going: I CAN'T AFFORD TAXES LIKE THAT. I wish I could afford to move.

There is more than enough money for these idiot Democrats to spend without raising taxes. They have raided / stolen from the State Employee Retirement Fund and paid nothing back. Hogan is doing nothing to prevent this. Hogan is proving he is a Democrat and not a Republican. Hogan has done nothing a Conservative Republican believes in and nothing to reduce taxes and cut big government. Hogan is a White Obama.

I’m not evaluating Governor Hogan’s other decisions and actions, but the people suggesting he “do something” or that not stopping this proves he is a RINO are wrong. (Other things might, this doesn’t)

Governor Hogan is powerless in this fight, which is why he is reaching out to MD citizens so that you can take action and hold your elected representatives responsible for doing their jobs! Hogan can’t do that for you! He is warning you because this will pass if CITIZENS don’t stop it, he will veto, and then they will overturn his veto... so rather than just saying “I tried to stop it” he’s arming you with the information you need to stop it from passing! So go do that! NOW!

More than HALF our tax money already goes toward "Education", and the kids get dumber every year. Our money is being wasted now. I say no more!

Another year of bait and switch. Look at the past years news from the same time period. They all say the same thing. Propose an astronomical tax increase to scare the living senses out of the public, Then, as time elapses, they show a CUT in the proposed tax increase to mollify the tax payer. How nice! And the taxpayer gets stuck yet again. Just like dumb-struck sacks the public are happy they, the Annapolis pols, reduced the suggested tax increase and pat themselves on the back for a good job done. OUTRAGEOUS! Come on people, wake up. You've been jobbed for years. It's time to vote and change this abhorrent process.

This is one of the reasons I moved out of Maryland.

Vote with your wallet folks.

I moved to Delaware 9 years ago, but because I work in Maryland I get a wonderful "non-resident" tax on my income. They find new ways to screw you even if you leave! My property tax is so low that it still pays off !

Best move I ever made !

You can't get blood out of a turnip!
Here's a novel idea, how about you start lowing your tax rate to try
and entice businesses that pay better than minimum wage, then maybe
we could afford to pay more?

I think we already pay too much in taxes and fees.

If they get this passed, I think there was be a push back by the tax payers in this state. There will be a further exodus of taxpayers like they have in high tax states like Californis, New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Illinois, etc

Manufacturing jobs and left this country due to the trade deals from the very people who want to raise our taxes and fees!

Look around! Home ownership is down because young people can no longer afford the prices. New cars and trucks as well!

We are all already over burdened with these taxes with high inflation, low paying jobs that no longer pay a living wage.

Look around, so many young people are living with their parents because of this, and the elderly are moving in with their children because they are living on a fixed income and the taxes and fees combined with the high cost of living is forcing them to make this difficult choice for them them and their families. My elderly mother has moved in with me because of this, and my younger son still lives with me because his full time job doesn't pay enough to afford and apartment.

If they spend it, they have to fund it...by law. Balanced budget is REQUIRED in Maryland. No deficit spending allowed. And all you people think balanced budget requirements on our government are a good thing. Careful what you ask for. They won't quit or reduce spending as a result of a balanced budget requirement, but they WILL continue to raise taxes forever.
