It was poor planning 40 years ago when adding the new bridge which only had 3 lanes. As for mass transit - NO ONE USES THAT. Everyone wants their own car. Foolish idea and typical liberal.

Oh you just dont know..i commute two times a week mon morn and thurs evening. Its a mess very frustrating. Get that alternate crossing completed like yesterday but as we know years and millions will be wasted on studies before anything actually reduces the problem.

Mass transit does not exsist on shore so how is that supposed to work? No commutrr trains, no buses no ferries, just that F ing bridge

It is a way for him to get his name out there even more when he runs to replace Hogan... He is just trying to demonstrate that he is the most viable candidate for the democratic nomination by commenting on things ad nauseam so that people are familiar with him... Typical political posturing...

Although, he also isn't wrong...

This is the typical bull$hit being thrown out of the mouths of Democrats. Trash anyone else’s plans with no plan of your own. What maintenance plan does Franchot have that can be done differently and does not include the long term closures of one lane at a time? I driven home vet the bridge twice since the jersey barriers were put into place sectioning off the right west bound lane. Completing the work on a 24 hour schedule ASAP is the best plan. Do I understand correctly that all three west bound lanes need similar repairs and the center and left lane are scheduled for similar closures?

9:46 is right. Franchot has been mentioned at the most viable candidate to run against or after Hogan retires.
Plus, since he is our state "CFO", the gridlock is affecting state commerce. So, yes, he does have reason to chime in on this.
I feel sorry for companies like the Bay Shuttle and any other logistics firms who have no other options. It's got to be affecting their bottom lines'.

Idiots in Govt should have Built a NEW bridge by now
before closing Any of this one !!!!

It will Not be able to Close this one for as long as they say
because there is Far Toooo much traffic for that !!!!

Build a Bridge-Tunnel next time so the bridge can be Low
to the water & Not Far Tooo high up in the air, like this one !!!

Take lessons from Virginia !!!

Yep, "Peter" Franchot and Liberal Len Foxwell are trying to make a name for themselves when he runs for Governor. Liberal Lenny is chomping at the bit to be named Chief of Staff or Secretary of some department.

Well, now you have more reason to put that third proposed span near Cambridge so people like us her eon the shore can get to Charles county in less than 3 to 4 hours... Since you have to go all the way up to the bay b ridge and all the way back down to southern Maryland...

So Mr. Franchot is sending a letter to DOT to stop work during the Fall/Winter season. What, does he think spring and summer is a BETTER time to work on the bridge. When they are all headed this way every weekend. Not smart, Mr. Franchot.

The toll lane seem to have very little to do with it-it’s compression of traffic (10 lanes into 2–you can see it’s backed up on the bridge side of the toll plaza).

That comment was on Mr. Franchot's FB page. You have three lanes expand to ten or whatever the number, pay a toll and then try to merge back into two lanes. Even with an "extra" lane on the other bridge therein is the problem.

And there is a weigh station on either side that contributes to delays when they are open.

This person denies what the problem is and then describes the same problem she denies. I just found it odd.

There is stop and go traffic, of course, there will be delays, if only for that reason.

Maybe they need a policy where once traffics gets to a certain volume, backed up a certain distance, or some other trigger, they could waive the tolls until traffic congestion gets manageable. Then resume and waive tolls with the ebb and flow of traffic.

Smoothly flowing traffic and safer traffic patterns are well worth the few missed tolls, aren't they?
