Frederick sheriff says he hopes deadly Fair assault is treated as hate crime

FREDERICK, Md. - The Frederick County sheriff says he plans to meet with the State’s Attorney’s office on Monday to discuss the kinds of charges two juveniles will face in connection with a deadly attack at the Great Frederick Fair.

The sheriff also identified the victim as 59-year-old John Weed.

Investigators say they found the victim lying on the ground unconscious after the attack around 5:36 p.m. near the midway area of the fairgrounds.

There won't be any hate crime charges because the victim is white and the suspects are black.
