Costa Rica has issued a national alert about tainted alcohol after 19 people were confirmed to have died over the past few weeks from methanol poisoning. The government says several alcohol brands have been tainted with methanol, a poisonous alcohol found in solvents and antifreeze.
Since early June, 14 men and five women across Costa Rica have died from methanol poisoning, according to the Ministry of Health. They ranged in age from 32 to 72. Seven of the deaths were in the San Jose province, which includes San Jose, the most populous city in Costa Rica.
The Ministry of Health said information on the deaths is "preliminary" and an investigation is ongoing.

As I recall from watching episodes of the TV show "Moonshiners" the first product of distillation when making moonshine is methanol and they have to discard that when they are making their homemade liquor. Perhaps this was homemade liquor and the maker didn't discard the methanol.
I don't know why anyone would go there Jamaica or the Dominican Republic or on a filthy cruise ship when there is Paris, Berlin or Amsterdam and not have to stay in a sequestered secure resort in places you could go here in the states. Busch Gardens and Disney should add tropical Caribbeans themes besides pirate rides for all the rube travelers. Just look what Joe has done for the locals LOL.

Cruises to the Caribbean and nearby waters are cheap, with 24/7 buffets, air conditioning a step away from anywhere outdoors, spas, pools, entertainment,babysitting and some short port visits to spice things up and give a story to tell back home; and no matter where you go, everybody, regardless of color, speaks English, maybe better than the vacationer does. Did I mention cheap?
