Bradshaw Towing Responds.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Bradshaw Towing Posted the below on Facebook.  This is in response to another Facebook post that we posted here on the blog Wednesday.  (See original Facebook post)

Our condolences go out to the family and friends of Chris Bailey. Mr. Bailey worked the water and was proud of his efforts as a Chesapeake Bay Waterman. His loss is one nobody would ever seek.

It has come to my attention that our company and the Maryland State Police are being blamed for his loss. It is being said that I purposely price-gouged the young man and made threats toward him. Anyone who has known me for my fifty-four years on this earth, thirty-seven years in the repair and towing business, and nearly fifteen years as a business owner know this would never be true. No words I write can lessen this loss, but I do feel I must explain what occurred that day.

On Saturday the 18th of May, Mr. Bailey contacted my company to assist in getting his boat, which had fallen from his trailer into a major intersection, out of the roadway and back onto his trailer. I explained that several options existed, including use of a rollback to pull the off the road surface- we would then get out of the road and place it back on the trailer. Mr. Bailey declined that, and preferred use of a rotating wrecker to prevent any further damage to the boat. We explained that, for recoveries, we typically bill $1,500/Hour for that truck’s services. This charge is reflective of the piece of equipment’s price, its extremely high operating expenses, and the experience required of its operator. Mr. Bailey said he wanted that truck dispatched and would determine how to make payment. Police had made clear the intersection could not remain blocked.

The truck arrived on scene with operator and a second technician. The truck was on scene for approximately two hours. Following the recovery and placement of the boat on the trailer, Mr. Bailey came to our physical location and made payment. We charged a rate one-half of normal charges in an effort to be fair to the young man. We did this out of compassion with knowledge he would be forced to pay out of pocket.

He at no times made any complaint as to service or price. Indeed, when I attempted to further explain the breakdown of charges, he said he was happy with everything. He made credit card payment and continued on to his destination.

We regularly post photos and information related to services rendered, as an example of the abilities of our equipment and crews. We did not laugh at, nor did we fault Mr. Bailey. After everything had occurred, we were under the impression we had provided an appreciated service to the young man.

Again, my condolences to Mr. Bailey’s family and friends. His loss is a terrible one.

The boy needed help and you fleeced him.

I don't know Bradshaw Towing or any of the employees. This explanation seems logical to me, and well written. The explanation of the State Police about this incident on this site also seemed logical. The original person posting on Facebook about the incident on the other hand, seemed to be stretching the explanation in their favor for some reason.

That woman has a mental illness and she owes creditors hundreds of thousands of dollars. Just look her up on the case search and use Queen Annes County.

These comments about the charge from the wrecker company needs to get a reality check. These rotating wreckers are not a small wrecker. They are used for Large vehicles, tractor trailer and such. Need to know what you are talking about. Call around and ask about the charge of getting a rotating wrecker. NO I do not know who Bradshaw Towing or the owner or their family are. I know reality in having to use that service from other companies.

Kid kills himself for other reasons. Mom blames everyone but her son. Wow this is becoming all too common. Your son needed help and didn't get it. That's why he is dead. Not because someone may have laughed or snickered. You're as much to blame as anyone in this, mom.

Come on @2:39 row companies around here charge what they can get. Since when should it cost 300+ for a towed vehicle? As far as a rotater why would you even need such a tow truck? Are we recovering vehicles off the side of mountains around here? The guy needed help getting his boat out if the road PERIOD end of discussion. Rotating wreckers in Salisbury MD, a damn portable crane to tow a tractor trailer is a bit overkill

1500 dollars an hour for a wrecker rotating or not is flat out a ripoff! Hell cranes rent cheaper than that but you have a minimum hours they'll rent it for. Tow companies around here are a bunch of ripoff artists except for Adkins towing. Their the only reasonably priced company around. What good are these rotating wreckers if their just sitting around in your yard? If the wheels aren't turning you ain't making no money, no wonder they try to gouge people with 1500 bucks an hour

Your lack of knowledge on what the use of a rotator wrecker cost is shameful.$1,500 is more than a deal they charge that much just to show up with a $500,000 truck not including the $40,000-$80,000 or more in insurance to operate the truck. The young man had a choice and knew the coast of each BEFORE they left to do the job

Rotating wreckers in Salisbury ocean city areas, WHY? I see now that the career criminal up on the Blvd father passed their must have "look at me" equipment sits in the yard alot these days. They have to pay the payments some kind of way on these monster wreckers so overpricing is their easiest option

It's an established fee. Who gets any sympathy favors for anything these days ? They provided the service and he signed on the line. He seemed unstable to begin with to find himself in such a ridiculous jam and financially over extended and ill prepared to follow through. Certainly was nothing to take ones life over it happens all the time around here.

15 years ago i was having a concrete pad poured on my shop behind my house. It had rained the night before and the ground was soggy as hell. The concrete truck ended up getting stuck and we had to have a big rotator come pull it out. It took 2 hours and cost $2300, 15 years ago. $1500 nowadays is a steal!

If you can't afford to pay for his $1 million wreck fees then don't do stupid sh!t and need a wrecker. Idiot!

She ought to be ashamed blaming his death on other people. To me that is worse than laughing at someone who dropped a boat.

The rotator wrecker cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to purchase. Mr Bradshaw can't sustain his business with no profit. Two hours use of a truck like that for $1500 is more than reasonable. The boy had other issues leading to his self termination. Bradshaw Towing owns zero part of this.

How does a boat fall off a trailer to begin with?

J.C. said...

He didn't know what he was doing 26' boat single axle trailer no strap =disaster. He should of had someone helping him that had experience and if he did he should of listed to them. There was way to many things wrong with this sad situation. The tow truck cost not being one of them it starts in the beginning not the end.

Completely agree with 1:31

Finally...some FACTS that start to make sense out of this circus. Thanks!

@4:26 LMFAO!! I bet he's flipping now he doesn't have that couple grand a month weed sales to fall back on every month! Thank you Mike Lewis for putting a stop to his garbage

Just a scamer family it sounds like trying to get a big settlement, the facts just don't add up to her story. Where was she when he was so distraught, in the hours following this supposed incident where was she when he committed suicide. I'd like to hear more about the history of this mother and family like did they support him at all, where were they when he was making calls?

You need to be smacked in the mouth

Anonymous said...

Steal is the key word

Anonymous said...

He wanted the boat lifted and gently placed placed back on the trailer, not dragged off the road to be dragged again back on the trailer.

This very plausible, well written explanation of events just shows the mother's irrational, mean, defamatory complaint explains why her apple didn't fall far from the tree.

All I'm can say is if the trucking companies weren't so desperate for drivers today there would be NO need for rotating wreckers here in the flatlands of Salisbury ocean city Maryland. The drivers today are you and inexperienced to say the least

@11:49, Hi Mr. Bradshaw.

Tell me again why a towing company is supposed to do anybody any favors for cleaning up after a self-inflicted result of a stupid and unsafe act of driving. The towing company showed up. The towing company said they could clean it up, not maybe, but they could actually do it....for a price. That's what they do. And it's what they did in this case. Who was the driver going to call? His watermen buddies? After abut 3-4 hours, five of them would show up drunk and laugh right along with the cops. "You've got to be sh**tting us. Let me get a picture of this!"

But mom saved everyone the trouble. She posted the picture and shared with everyone how badly her son screwed up. Now she wants her son's money back. How low life is that. Wants everyone to hate the tow company so she can get $1500.00 that her son paid to clean up his mess, And blaming the cops for laughing at her son's stupid mistake to get sympathy for her son's final stupid mistake. What trailer park does she live in?
