PRESS RELEASE: Congressman Harris Applauds Department of Homeland Security for H-2B Visa Increase

WASHINGTON, DC: Following the Department of Homeland Security’s approval of an increase in H-2B visas, Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) made the following statement:

“Considering the low unemployment rate, the importance of the program to the local economy in Maryland’s First Congressional District, and the constant oversubscription to the program, I support the Department of Homeland Security’s decision to increase the number of H-2B visas by 30,000 this summer season. The H-2B visa program is a crucial resource for the seafood industry, the tourism industry, and other seasonal employers across the First District and supports thousands of related jobs held by American citizens. We have worked for years to see this increase of H-2B visas for workers, and I applaud the Department of Homeland Security and Sec. Kirstjen Nielsen for this decision.”
