Dollar Tree reported a $2.3 billion loss, which has propelled the company to announce store closures and renovations. Dollar Tree plans to close 390 Family Dollar stores this year while renovating 1,000 other locations.
“We are confident we are taking the appropriate steps to reposition our Family Dollar brand for increasing profitability as business initiatives gain traction in the back half of fiscal 2019,” CEO Gary Philbin said in announcing the results according to CNBC.More

such bs. they overbuild. didnt keep up with what they had and are now paying the price. no one "online shops" the dollar store.
Dollar Tree is losing out to Dollar General, which is the currently the fast growing brick and mortar store across the nation. I doubt the internet has any effects on these types of stores.
The new Dollar General stores more resembles an Aldi's without the produce, than the old model that Family dollar and most Dollar Tree's resemble. Also, they are putting their stores in locations other than shopping hubs, like Mappsville, Westover, Mardela, and Sharptown. Places where it would be a 10-15 minute drive to the nearest grocery store, which makes it very convenient.
A Dollar Tree is usually located in the same areas as a Family Dollar, Dollar General, or a number of grocery stores and convenience stores would be located. That's why they are closing. Dollar General is now building where there is no competition. That's why they are thriving.
Good ! Less Chinese landfill crap that they won't even take back now and recycle.
Did either of you actually read the article? The Family Dollar stores that they bought out are the underperformers they are closing, not Dollar Tree stores.
No, no Dollar Tree ("Everything's A Dollar") stores are closing. They're just a part of the larger company.
Thank you for stating that. There is a BIG difference between Dollar General and Dollar Tree as you pointed out. Dollar General charges more for their merchandise. Dollar tree sells everything for $1.00. You can buy some quantities for a $1.00.
Could be. Are you sure?
1:20 I believe I included Family Dollar in my comment. Did you actually read my comments? Stop trolling. It's a fairly innocuous post.
family dollar stores all seem dark, dirty, and merchandise isn't displayed well. whereas Dollar General stores (the new ones at least) seem bright, clean and well organized.
Personally I love any dollar store, if it saves me $ I frequent them often.
