If someone is on a vent with their heart still beating but they are brain-dead and the family pulls the plug are they committing murder?

When is a social security number issued ?

Too much logic, I guess.

They haven't figured out a way to get babies to vote, so Democrats don't care about them.

11:24 it can be argued that it is illogical to associate life with a beating heart. What about someone in a coma who can sustain a heartbeat on their own but not brain function?

Same reason your called Republican when you have a brain and liberal when you don't.

SAY IT LOUDER!!!!

1106, no one said the baby is brain dead or terminal. False analogy.

Brain dead is dead. The heart can be removed from the body, and it will still keep beating for a while, or can be iced down and sent across the country and re-started in a transplant patient. That does not mean the patient is still alive. A beating heart is not an absolute sign of life. All you have to do is witness a person's death in a hospital, hooked up to monitors, to realize that. I've seen someone's heart continue to start and stop for an hour after breathing totally ceased. Brain death is more definitive than a heartbeat.

Excellent question.

Not much dispute that when heart stops, you stop. Definitely not going to be around 3 months or 6 months after ticker stops.

Thus the threshold question about when life begins. Absent a miscarriage, those first cells will grow to become a living human in a few months.

Most of us are exceedingly glad our parents permitted us to see the light of day.
