McConnell vows Senate will block House funding bill that excludes wall money

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., Wednesday said he’ll reject legislation proposed by House Democrats to fund nine partially closed government departments without money included for a border wall.

“The legislation that the House Democrats are reportedly planning to introduce and vote on [Thursday] will not be a serious contribution to the negotiations that are ongoing between the administration and the incoming Democratic majority in the House,” McConnell said Wednesday. “It isn’t comprehensive, it ignores the needs of border security, it’s exactly the kind of proposal you’d expect if the incoming House Democrats are choosing to stage a political sideshow rather than doing the hard work of helping govern the country. In other words, a total nonstarter.”

You can't block it you morons... All they need is majority vote which they will have!!! Also, appropriations comes from the house not the senate... Senate has no authority with spending... they can pass a bill to spend all they want, but if the house doesn't appropriate monies to that bill it won't be funded, the think Ron and Rand Paul used to say the repubs should use to get their way years ago??? Remember??? The power of the purse???

Wrong approach Mitch....

Put the money in when it gets to your side and let Chuck block it!

Sounds quite reasonable to me.
Keep it shut down.

The bill has to be approved by both houses. If u don't have 60 Senate votes, it ain't happening. That's how we got to where we are today.

Shut down for many years is good to me. Just what are "non-essential employees" anyway but "expendable idiots"?

Declare a national.emergency...start paying all essential personnel and start building the wall. Trump should the tell all the people on food stamps, or laid off or waiting on their tax refund that they need to call every Democratic Rep in Congress and demand they do their job.the

yes the house holds the power of the purse but it has to have the votes of all of congress. The house and Senate. if they dont get those votes its a no go. I agree with him. Stand the ground until the people get what they want. That wall. These jerks keep forgetting they work for us the People. Stand your ground and give the people what they want.
