AT&T, Dish, Comcast all raising Cable TV Rates

Another year, another increase to your monthly pay-TV bill.

Giants including AT&T Inc.'s DirecTV, Dish Network Corp. and Comcast Corp. plan to raise rates again in the new year, a move that could boost revenue but risks alienating subscribers who have been ditching their traditional TV subscriptions in record numbers.

Cable and satellite providers are hoping to squeeze more money from consumers who remain loyal to their packages with hundreds of channels, Philip Cusick, a JPMorgan Chase & Co. analyst, said in a note this week, even though "this strategy could accelerate video sub declines."

All of these companies negotiate their prices. If you are paying what they dictate to you, it's time to get on the phone and work them down.

I've had blast internet for years with Comcast, and only payed 39.99 a month for 5 or 6 years... the last two years I've only payed $8 more than that per month, as a concession for not having an increase for so many years.

They CAN change the rate. They CAN and will issue credits to offset increases. Be nice, but be firm and stand your ground.

12:56 not if they hold a monopoly in your area. Thank the repeal of net neutrality for the new pricing schemes you're going to see.

1256 ABSOLUTELY CORRECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I too enjoy talking Verizon down every couple of years. Actually, the last 2 times it required very little haggling - but there is ALWAYS room for a some haggling!

Interesting as the country continues to cut the chord, the BIGGIES continue to raise the price. Sound familiar, like with big box stores for electronics (Circuit City, HHGregg) box stores (KMart, Monkey Wards, now Sears, soon JCPenney), etc., etc. Keep raising the price prior to extinction. Pretty crappy business model if you ask me.

Naa, don't need them.

BUT, they ought to experiment, lower the prices, say internet for $40 a month and lock a person in for a period of 5-8-10 years. Or offer lifetime membership with a company, as I am with Sirius/XM, which for $400 back in 2005 gave lifetime membership with them. It would be interesting if people would cough up the dough to get on board with a long duration deal. But, there are always risks, like having to move to a location that doesn't have Comcast. But a satellite company on the other hand, especially if they offered internet, would be portable.

Anyway, no need for Comcast and the other price raising craziness. Out in the country, DSL works just fine.

Comcast Rapes you .
It's more like 160.00 on up per month for tele /internet/tv .

Their service Sucks too & good luck talking to someone in the
Phillipines if your lucky.

They did not even give me the Needed MOCA filter that everyone should have to prevent Loosing Signal , causing Lock ups & . I was
taking back 6 set top boxes thinking it was the boxes.

Closer to $200.00 a month for cable with Comcast . & don't believe
those . cheap offers of $79.00 or so . It will Double when they
Nickel & Dime you ...... They Won't remind you when your contract
runs out either so they can Raise your Price so better watch when it
comes due again !!!
