Able To Afford Doctor Visit After Winning $1M Scratch-Off, Man Dies 23 Days Later

BINGHAMTON, New York (WJZ) — On January 4, Donald Savastano claimed a $661,800 lump sum after winning a $1 million New York lottery scratch-off ticket.

“This is gonna change our lives, to tell you the truth,” he told local media at the time. He said he wanted to put some money away for retirement, buy a new truck and maybe take a vacation.
But less than three weeks later, on Jan. 26, he died of cancer.

WBNG-TV, a CBS station in Binghamton, reports that Savastano also used some of his winnings to see a doctor, something he couldn’t afford to do before. His obituary says he was a self-employed carpenter.

The doctor diagnosed him with Stage 4 cancer.

Savastano, 51, was laid to rest Wednesday.

This is so sad. So many Americans will end up this way. We work so hard @ $7.25 an hour and still can't afford medical insurance. This is so said. RR.I.P. Mr. Savastano.

1:10 pm., this country is the original S...hole. There is nothing great about this country except disenfranchisement and greed.

What makes it so great?

Is it because our government attacks every other small country on the planet?
Is it because our central bank prints money out of thin air?
Is it because they use this money to devalue all of our labor?

What is it that makes America great?

If he had been able to afford a doctor before winning the money when his cancer was probably treatable, he could have lived to enjoy that money. Once again the poor die because the rich think they don't deserve medical treatment (which costs a lot of money).

I don't know about the statement he didn't have the money to see a doctor. I would like to add that Salisbury doctors are well just comfortable if you know what I mean. Some from other countries actually alot. Just saying may he rest in peace

355, no, look in a mirror and you will see what you speak of. Bush and Obama have decimated this country, and we elected a real leader to attempt to repair the damage. His first year has been a fabulous success, but it really will take another 7 to get us Great Again.

You will be name calling for the duration, but you will not be able to stop the Trump Train, and us riders are celebrating every minute of the trip!

Long live Donald Trump!
