Update On Speed Camera In Pittsville

Changes need to be made on the article I published last week, we were wrong.

First of all, the Sheriff's Department has nothing to do with this camera.

Secondly, while this is a speed camera, it's not what you or I thought it was. You see, it's only there to do a study to see how many people are in fact speeding.

There are NO citations from this unit. It will simply regulate the many complaints that have been made to see if there is in fact a habitual speeding problem throughout Pittsville and this camera has been temporarily set up to confirm or deny the complaints brought forth to the Council.

I apologize for any inconvenience I may have caused. It seemed logical.

Thanks Joe you do something the MSM never does, admit their mistakes.

I've got a feeling this will become permanent.

It is still surveillance and I don't believe a word of it.

This is really needed to slow the autos down. Needed in Willards also. While they are at it, let's see more Red Light Camera's, especially at the Mall in Salisbury

If there are many complaints why would the county need to prove or disapprove them? Apparently the government doesn't trust the minions.

I just paid one for the trap at 50 West above the post office. Now that they have build a wall to keep off the unruly they should be removed. If I had been going 35 on the main drag I would have put my life in their hands. Just easing through with the flow of traffic. We were bumper to bumper so that must have been a heck of a tariff they sucked out of us.

What they mean is that if they find there are enough speeders they will start to issue tickets. This is just the first step to see if they can make some more money.

why are all of the camera boxes these flat colors? In the UK they are painted bright yellow to deter speeding. Here they might as well be camouflaged because they don't care about deterring speeding, they want to make money.

Because they don't want to deter speeders. The company that makes these are in partnership with the city police so they get half of the profits.

Joe I think you need to clarify this. You stated the sheriff's department has nothing to do with this and now people are saying "direct your complaints to the county." I know for a fact the county has nothing to do with this. You mentioned Pittsville so I would suggest you clarify this that it is the Pittsville town council they need to direct their complaints to.

I drove through that area again the other day. If one isn't going at least 65 they will get passed.

Well there you go. If you speed through a school zone during school hours, you deserve the ticket. If you can't slow down for kids in a school zone during school hours, you shouldn't even be driving a car. The ticket is a good thing. It will remind you to drive responsibly, at least where they have the cameras to encourage you to do the right thing.

I am aware of a circuit court worker that has gotten 3 tickets there. Some people just won't learn without a penalty.

They are doing a cost-benefit analysis.
Will the price of the equipment be recovered in tickets?
Is there any other place we haven't considered for "monitoring"?
It is absolutely not about safety.
You keep cheering.
It's unreal.

They have moved it from behind the school to in front of the school on rt 346.

There's two things you need to know. Police on duty have the right to speed, and have been trained to go fast. And the other thing is that cops can't catch speeders unless they go FASTER than traffic. If they go the same speed, or slower, they will never catch speeders. You better keep those eyes on your rear view mirror.

Now if YOU want to get away with speeding without the citations, I suggest you become a cop, like so many of my lead-footed friends I had growing up.
